The last modular, the corner garage, was OK for me, but I felt there was a lot of wasted space in the real estate, compared to sets like the Emporium. This one looks to be a proper return to form for the modulars, as the non-corner sets are always pretty dense and well designed (my favorite being the detective's office). I like how they took advantage of the usually annoying slot in those round pin connector pieces to mimic the look of birch bark. Very clever. The little guy's plane gets stuck in the tree, and there is a bird nest! In that sample pick with the girl looking through the aquarium at the chameleon on the bed, I though her head was in the thank for a sec. (ninja'd by @Starfire22 !!)
I like the split buildings, but they seem just a hair cramped with the detail they tried to put in. The tree seems like it would have been great between the buildings rather than on the edge, but I like the effect they’re going for. The bottom floor of the blue building seems pretty barren. Furniture all looks fun.
I've never bought any of the modular sets before, but I adore this bookstore. I might have to get this one, it looks like so much fun.
Awwww. That's quaint. I like it! It's cute. I especially like the roof detailing on the blue (teal? Whatever) building. The quarter circle tiles work nicely for that. Also, nice touch calling it "Birch Books" and having a birch tree out front. Bonus points for autumn colors.
I'm glad that Lego went back to the European style buildings. I love the exterior but the interior is lacking. Their are hardly any books in the bookstore. The apartment has no tiling on the bottom floor. Just a couple of small things I noticed. I will definitely get it on January 1.
Anyone wanting the free mini batmobile with purchase of the UCS 89 batmobile, the 23rd street and 5th Avenue has some in stock, bought a second batmobile about 30 minutes ago and received the mini batmobile and gingerbread house.
It represents a basement/storage crawlspace. There's no walkable access going into it (there's a small hatch door in the back), just a stairwell down from the "main" floor. That's why all it has is the ladder in it. Maybe could've used a cardboard box or two down there to sell the idea more.
I like the new Modular a lot. Love having a book shop... and look at all that teal, woo! Nice color contrasts in this set. Really liking the yellowish autumn-style tree, too.
I’m into the new modular, it really does look great. I do wish the bookstore had more books though, only seems to have two bookshelves inside? I know space is limited, but like a real bookstore, every available space should be filled to the brim with novels.
Gorgeous, definitely getting that set. Although I do have the same issue I have with all the modulars: the interior space is too small, but I will fix that myself. The interior is also a bit bare, especially the bookstore is lacking in books. btw, can't help but see George Lucas in that one grey haired, bearded fellow wearing a plaid shirt
I went to Bob Vila for some reason, over Lucas (I really don't know why. Haven't heard anything about/from the guy since maybe the late 90s). But I can see that. I will say that having the slots in the Technic couplers mimic birch bark is an inspired and amazing bit of detail. I'm sort of glad that I have no plausible space to set up a Modular city, as I'd be so broke buying these all. They look gorgeous, and I absolutely love all the true-to-life details they manage to cram into them. I'll just have to admire them from afar.
Yeah - I saw that once I looked at more pictures. Odd choice, but way better than I first thought. It is definitely growing on me on the whole. Debating if I should get the treehouse to tie in the fall foliage.
