I always had more of a connection to Golion than Dairugger XV. The Lion Voltron cartoon was always shown more than Vehicle voltron when I was a kid and to be honest, I thought the concept of 5 robot lions was way cooler than 15 pretty boring and weird looking (except for a few) vehicles. Besides that, even as a kid I thought it would be pretty much a no brainer for any enemy to just concentrate all their forces to obliterate 1 single vehicle (like the one that makes up his waist) and render Voltron useless. At least the Lions were pretty formidable even alone. That being said, I thought the Vehicle Voltron robot was totally badass and looked awesome! I Always wanted the die-cast Matchbox ones but had to settle for the LJN rubber ones. They were actually pretty fun since you didn't have to worry about being too rough with them - those things could take a beating. ...and after only 30 years my patience is rewarded.
I had that rubber lion Voltron as a kid. Pretty sure I lost all of the weapons and the wings immediately.
Well well well, 2 more entries into my awesome Voltron display today. Toynami Altimites SD Voltron and Playmates 8in diecast Legendary Defender. This Altimites is an awesome little figure. I've never really been into SD or Chibi figures but these bighead lions actually work out pretty good, articulation at this size isnt bad for what your getting and then having the pilots is extra cool. The Playmates is somewhere btwn a good figure and a dud. The overall engineering is there but it doesnt work quite as well as it should, and the diecast bodies make the plastic legs really weak trying to hold up the lions or Voltron. A hinge on the wings though would've saved Voltron but I bought these with the intention of them being in lion mode for my display. We def need a SoC LD. Anyways if anyone sees or wants to let go of their Icarus Toys Dark Lion Force Voltron please hit me up I'm in the market to make that the tentative final piece for now
I got mine in from Entertainment Earth today. I am not a fan of their tracking system, but it arrived in perfect condition. I enjoyed putting it together at least as much was Lion Voltron. Engineering is great. They look equally good, though I think the aesthetic on VV is slightly better. I only have some minor gripes. I do not like the hole in the red plastic on the shin. The ankles are eh in looks, but they are livable. The clicks in the shoulders could be better. Thats it. I do not regret buying this is an awesome figure, I will have to sit down one day this month and do both of them at the same time to decide my TOTY.
I get that it's your decision but can a reissue be TOTY? it's rough for me, VV, D.E.C. Tarnation, Clone Armor Obi-wan, Neca BB&RS, tbd LC Lord Drakkon(haven'tfound him yet). The last few yrs have been really good for collecting, I can feel myself coming to an end so to speak with a lot of my collections being pretty much done
I guess some context would help. I write an article every year for toysrevil where I pick my toty. The rules are that it just has to be acquired this year. The toy can be from any year and even be used. I think even outside my article a reissue can be debated to fall into its own year for toty due to revisions etc. lion voltron is likely the same but we did get a different Bandai logo and it seems some collectors have already separated the two for that reason alone.
Oh ok gotcha and I didnt know people were separating the releases over a sticker lol but I've seen crazier things. So besides LV & VV what are your other choices?
This has been slow year for collecting as I have been busy with school. Graduate next week. I will be selecting my top 10 list for things acquired this year. The only 3 top contenders for the top spots are these two and Siege Omega Supreme. My choices tend to have emotional connections so even some years cheapo toys from the 80s I acquired that year break the top 10. This is last years top 10 to give you an example of how my ranking can go. https://toysrevil.blogspot.com/2019/01/josh-coldirons-toptentoysof2018.html

View attachment 28468912 Wow, seeing this Assembler Vehicle Voltron brought back a forgotten memory... I believe I actually had this when I was a kid and it was the only Voltron I had. Well I'm happy now to have SoC GoLion and MiniPla. If I get drunk, I may end up buying the SoC VV.
