I honestly don’t know how people like this show, it just comes across as so mind numbingly babyish to me. The dialogue is so basic and generically written that it sounds like it was written by 7-year-olds, thinking, “hmm, yes, this sounds cool.” And the voice acting is at best acceptable, but some of the worst examples really stick out badly. Clobber sticks out as one character who really just sounds like someone reading off of a script. I hate it when people try to replicate Peter Cullen’s Prime voice, and I have to say this version is no exception. I fucking hate the word “cringe” because of all the ePiC rEdDiT mEmErS who overuse it, but it is really the best way to describe his voice. And Cheetor... yikes. I just watched the episode where the Autobots fake pilot those smaller ships and Cheetor and Bee pretend to get shot down, and Cheetor’s “bad acting” seriously sounds better than his actual voice acting.

There’s a lot of other stuff that I find dumb, for instance the apparent surprise of Starscream’s seekers when they learn that when he planned to kill all Cybertronians, he was *gasp* including them in the demographic of all Cybertronians. Perhaps you could say that I’m just nitpicking? But it kind of builds up when you have wacky shit like that happening in basically every episode.

Also, I’ve noticed Starscream’s plan basically makes him SEELE with their Human Instrumentality Project. But at least this show actually portrays that as a bad thing to happen, where NGE seems to show it as a happy ending??? I never understood the End of Evangelion. Oh well.

Yeah, it seems to be in a very similar vain to RID2015, but with MUCH worse voice acting.

Rescue Bots Academy has better voice acting. The writing is simple, but it is targeting children under 5. Cyberverse is more okay then bad IMO.

Oddly... Optimus Prime in Rescue Bots Academy at one point was voiced by the same actor from Cyberverse. Some how his voice acting was a lot better in Rescue Bots and I think he improved in Cyberverse as a result.

I get the feeling because of that it's not all the voice actors fault. It seems like they're getting bad direction cause how else do you explain the same guy doing a much better job voicing Optimus in a different show then the one where he's a regular. He seems to only be credited for one episode of Rescue Bots while a different guy normally voices Optimus. Neither one of them really sounds like Peter Cullen but one sounded closer than the other.

CAN YOU DO IT BETTER? People stop complaining about whether the show is G1ish quality or not. Do you realize we have no movie or war for cybertron news coming out?

It’s too bad that the tight friendship between Bumblebee & Windblade seems to have been all but forgotten in season 2. She gets random hijinks to deal with on her own while he spends all his time hanging out with Cheetor & Hot Rod.

Just as I said in the other thread, I maybe could. But again, that is not the point of my argument. Their voice acting quality has nothing to do with me. Even if someone isn’t a voice actor, it doesn’t mean they have no idea what good/bad voice acting sounds like. Also, nothing I said had anything to do with judging it based on how G1 accurate it is. As long as it’s not blatant nameslapping of characters or wasted potential for retelling a classic G1 story, I do not care at all if something is different from G1.
Also, huh? What does this have to do with movie/WFC news?

Honestly, I tried giving this show the benefit of the doubt because it's clearly aimed at a younger audience, but even for younger children this is just a lame show. It's not interesting or funny or clever or... stimulating. It really is kind of... trash.

Cyberverse is very kid friendly. Nakedly so.

I don't hate it. When I watch it, I usually half pay attention to it. I applaud it for doing a semi-faithful adaptation of the original characters - and I feel like that's the point of the show: to reintroduce a G1 style show for a very young audience. That's smart, especially as Hasbro is trying to consolidate the way the characters are portrayed. The only major departure here is Grimlock, but I think doing anything remotely close to his original version in a modern children's cartoon is unworkable in today's climate. You used to get away with doing dumb anti-social a**holes in children's cartoons in the 80s, and in 2019 now everyone is walking on eggshells.

I think War for Cybertron will be the adult version, and they'll continue with kid-friendly content in the meantime. This is a smart decision on their part because guys like me are not going to keep the franchise going. Hell, after I sell all my shit I'm probably done for good, and I know that will happen within the next five to ten years maximum. They have to plan for the future and this show is a good step towards doing just that.

NGE had an interesting justification for the idea of Instrumentality, that being to escape the existential pain of human existence. End of Eva ultimately rejects this notion in favor of individuality.

It's better than G1 for sure. It's also a serial, which is a nice change from the "monster of the week" style of earlier cartoons, and it doesn't have the endless filler, weirdness and continuity gaffes that plagued the Unicron trilogy. I'd say that for a kid's show, it's a respectable entry and at least doesn't actively insult the intelligence of its audience which G1 did on occasion ("Let's turn Optimus into a sewer gator and make his arm a turret!")

To be honest, I'm about three quarters of the way through with S1, and it's fairly good. When I watched "Whiteout," the show moved on from watching for "research purposes" to actual entertainment. "Megatron is my Hero" was a great episode; in fact, it felt like it came right out of G1 Season 3.

I can't see why you guys perceive Cyberverse to be trash. Heck, the voice acting for Optimus is far superior than the Machinima voice actor. It actually sounds a bit like Cullen.

Plus the opening theme is one of the better intros I've seen on a modern kid's show.

Grimlock isn't the only major departure. Cheetor, Sky-Byte, and a few others are as well.

Plus Grimlock actually IS like the G1 version but only while in his dino mode. They made him totally different in robot mode but the character essentially has DID now with his robot and dino mode having two very distinctly different personalities.

Also I'm not sure what depicting someone as dumb and anti-social has to do with everyone walking on eggshells as you put it. G1 was already a pretty progressive cartoon to begin with. If anything I think Transformers cartoons have gotten LESS politically correct than they were back in the 80's.

G1 had characters like Chip Chase who was in a wheel chair but they never made it a huge deal. He was still very capable and there hasn't been a character like that in a cartoon since.

We also had a lot more characters from different cultures and back grounds that were normal back then but now are a bunch of racial stereotypes that everyone hates. Even when the freaking ROBOTS are portrayed with characteristics of racial stereotypes people throw a fit... even when the voice actor... Reno Wilson... is essentially just being himself.

And finally with Grimlock specifically... yeah he was dumb but we didn't see other characters actively making fun of him for being dumb or criminalizing him for being dumb like you see in modern shows like RID2015. I mean sure Optimus ordered that the Dinobots be shut down but that's because they attacked their own team not because they were stupid, he was viewing them as a legitimate threat and he eventually accepted the Dinobots when they turned against the Decepticons and started actually helping the Autobots. In RID2015 Grimlock was a prisoner on the Alchemor just because he was clumsy, he never intentionally attacked any Autobots like G1 did, he caused minor property damage entirely on accident. That's also the reason Bumblebee let him join the team rather than viewing him as a threat like the other Decepticons… But that show also introduced other characters who were relatively harmless and not genuinely evil, just dumb and they were still treated as criminals.

For all these reasons G1 is far more politically correct by todays standards than the stuff Hasbro is currently making.

Going back to Grimlock specifically... we actually get to see what caused his disorder and it's just because he was the only Autobot who was active on board the arc and had to live among real Dinosaurs while the rest of the Arc crew was in Stasis Lock. So he got a beast mode with a totally different personality from his robot mode. This is not how that works... like AT ALL. I mentioned earlier that he's essentially being portrayed with DID except that is a mental disorder that can only be caused by repeated childhood trauma. Grimlock wasn't at all child like and he's even bragged about all the battles he's be in before the supposed trauma that cause his alternate personality to appear which means he could never have developed a different personality like that.

Just to clarify I don't personally find Grimlock offensive. I don't think you could do an accurate portrayal with a robot who doesn't really have a childhood to begin with. I'm just pointing out the inaccuracies here because I can understand how others might find him offensive. So you're entire argument seems totally backwards since G1 Grimlock is more socially acceptable today than the current versions.

Oh the irony... You basically just said that Jake Tillman sounds more like Peter Cullen than Peter Cullen.

Also there are actually TWO Machinima voice actors and you didn't even seem to notice the difference.

Combiner Wars Optimus was voiced by Jon Bailey who also recorded some of Prime's lines for the Bumblebee movie by the way though I think he said his voice clips only made it into the trailers because they hadn't recorded Peter Cullen for the movie yet when the trailers were released.

Titans Returns and Power of the Primes Optimus Prime actually IS Peter Cullen so Cullen himself actually voiced Optimus for the majority of the Machinima series.

Would also like to point out that Peter Cullen HIMSELF said that Jon Bailey did the best impersonation of him he'd ever heard. Jake Tillman on the other hand sounds NOTHING like Cullen and doesn't have the same recognition that Jon does.

I will give Jake credit for one thing though. He's far superior to Robert Belgrade from that horribly acted PS2 game and Jake Tillman seems to be getting better as he sounds better in that one Rescue Bots episode he did and season 2 of Cyberverse than he did in the first season. I mostly blame the voice director on Cyberverse who obviously seems to have given him some bad direction but he's still no Peter Cullen.

That's Jon Bailey... You just said the Machinima series though and Peter Cullen did voice Optimus for the majority of the run. Plus there's still the fact that Peter Cullen himself said Jon did the best impersonation of him that he'd ever heard. They're nearly indistinguishable to the point where Jon has been cast twice to essentially fill in for Peter Cullen. He also did a few of Prime's lines in the Bumblebee movie and NO ONE noticed the difference.

Jake Tailman on the other had has zero prior experience and sounds like he's just now figuring out how to do the voice for the first time since the voice actually changed between seasons despite being the same guy. He's not PS2 bad that was absolute shit. At least Jake can actually act but his voice as Optimus has taken some getting use to and sounds really off. So I don't get your idea that Jake is some how better than Jon's Prime.

I've been Subscribed to Jon's YouTube channel for years before he even started booking profession gigs and it's freaking weird to me how everyone use to love him back then and now that he's finally playing Optimus for real everyone has suddenly shifted their opinion for no apparent reason. Actually I think people still like him over on YouTube but on here I keep seeing people talking trash about the guy.

I think this should apply here considering Jon is actually a member of the boards here. Specifically the part I've underlined. Like I haven't seen Jon respond to any of these comments but it honestly reads like you're just saying stuff to get attention from him.

He referenced him once, not even by name, and wasn't even that harsh or critical. I don't see how that's trying to get his attention if he doesn't even know who he is.

Also, just because someone's a member here doesn't mean we can't be critical of and discuss their professional work. It's only fair.

I don't think he was really being critical though but was instead just trying to provoke a member of the boards.

Also I'd like to point out there are two forms of criticism. Constructive is generally helpful and tells a person how to improve. Deconstructive is just passive aggressive insulting. The fact that someone is a member here does make a difference.

Someone who is not a member would never see any comments made about them so it wouldn't make any difference if criticism is constructive or not. If it is you can't exactly tell them how to be better if they're never going to see it. If it isn't it also wouldn't qualify for the rule I posted for the same reason, they're never going to see it.

When someone is a member however if you're not giving CONSTRUCTIVE criticism then I think you are breaking rule 1. And telling someone "You don't sound like Peter Cullen." isn't constructive... and when that person was literally told the exact opposite by the real Peter Cullen it just makes you come off as insulting and not knowing what the hell you're talking about.

I'm pretty sure what Peter said to Jon means a lot more to him than some random on the internet and that's why he'll never respond to such comments but it still looks like a pitiful attempt to aggravate a member of the boards and not constructive criticism. Constructive criticism is really the only thing that wouldn't be breaking any rules since it's not meant to be insulting. I just don't see how that was constructive.
