I used Cadmium Yellow Medium by Liquitex on the touch ups and it matches nicely.

That looks pretty damn good to me, even super zoomed in. My chip is in the exact same place as the chip you showed on the lower right window frame on his chest. But on the opposite side. It’s very small but I’m OCD AF so I might try to paint it.

I’ve never painted a figure before and I’m sure I’ve asked this before in a different thread so apologies! What type of paint is that lemon yellow you’re using? Acrylic? And are you using thinner? If so how much? And will any small paint brush do the trick?

The photos were just taken under the halogen bulb lighting of the room. I'll try to take some in daylight, but it does look fine (to me!) there too. I daresay it is hugely down to lighting, though - fortunately it works well in the lighting of my room, day and night. :)

It's just Tamiya Lemon Yellow X-8, which is acrylic. Because I'm just dabbing it into a chip (and want the paint to fill out the chip a little too), I'm not using thinner. I'm just dabbing it in with a tiny paintbrush, and then patting it off with my fingertip if it looks off. I use my iPhone X's 2x+ zoom to check the results (since I don't have a good magnifying glass) and a cocktail stick to gentry scrape away any excess. It's not perfect, but it's good enough that it no longer looks like an obvious chip and I stop noticing it, which is the main thing for me.

Regarding the color matching issue, is there any way to get that info from TT? Does anyone have connections that can reach that far into them or will that be viewed as KO activity?

Interesting. I'm gonna give that Lemon Yellow another shot tomorrow, and check it out under different lightning. Maybe see how it looks airbrushed too.

One thing I did notice was that it seemed to work differently on different parts of the figure. It worked well for hiding chips on the clear plastic, but looked really off when I tried to use it to hide a chip on the pelvis (it seemed too pale there). Obviously the latter is yellow plastic, but weirdly it worked well for hiding a chip on the helmet crest which is yellow plastic too (but it was only tiny there so maybe that’s why it looked fine). I’ll be interested to read your results. A good paint for touch-ups is going to be invaluable because the figure is prone to rubbing and chipping with repeat transformations even if you start off with a perfect copy.

After handling this thing, is there a way to lock in the piece that holds his head or does it just float around looking stupid?

I've had 45 for about a week. He has that nice looking photo realistic cartoon accurate look TT is going for. THe headsculpt is much better than what you see in photos. I like the sculpted elbows and I'd like to see more of that done in the future. Still not a fan of the backpack or heels. You can mistransform his backpack a bit but all of the configurations I tried still don't look great. In hand, he feels like a tiny lightweight suntreaker and only takes around 10 minutes or less to transform. He ages the other 3P minibots, but I think they still look good together. The ones that will be joining BC's Brawny in minibot limbo are XTB's cliffjumper and beachcomber since they scale too closely to 21.

I'm ok with compromises being made to his back but he's kind of a mixed bag due to the limited waist articulation and QC. You can mistransform the back bumper into a monster butt flap for full waist articulation, but it obviously doesn't look good. For QC, I had a side hip skirt that wouldn't move due to too much paint but was able to take an exacto knife to free it. Parts not lining up well in altmode is also a problem. His paint job still seems to be intact after a few transformations though so that's good. YMMV. :thumb

Lovely crisp shots, and a nice commentary.

I must say, it’s quite lovely coming in to this thread and seeing how pretty much everyone is sharing balanced critiques of this little guy.

He ain’t perfect, but he feels right in the collection, doesn’t fall apart after normal use, and isn’t broken out the box (the last two points are probably my bottom lines when it comes to QC :lol ), everything else is either acceptable or, at the very least, tolerable.

I’ve had him next to me most evenings this week, and he makes me smile. Money well spent.

That would be some great info!

If TT decided to sell a Masterpiece paint touch up kit, I’d totally buy that. ;)

See pics like this really emphasise one of my biggest gripes with MP, both official and 3P. I mean, how hard is it to pick a windscreen colour and stick to it?
You see the newer plus editions and they're starting to go with that deeper blue, and you think "OK, maybe they're going to settle down..." but nope. Even Wheeljack, Ironhide and Prime have different shades of blue! And don't start me on the choices some of the 3P's make. You can;t really blame them of course, if Takara themselves can't stay consistent within their own line, what's a poor 3P to so?
In the end, I had no choice but to start painting them.
But seriously guys, pick a colour and stick to it!!

(and yeah, I saw the digi of what Bumblebee would look like with blue windows... but still)

That's unlikely to be helpful. Takara won't be using Tamiya or Mr Colour or Model Master or Vallejo paints. They'll be sourcing from an industrial supplier in huge quantities, and they may even be getting a special colour mix made up specifically for them.
It's unlikely that they'll be able to come back and say "oh yeah, buy this paint from your hobby store" The most we'd get would be "Industrial paint supplier "X", item code:xxx colour code: xxx.
The most helpful (but unfortunately pretty unlikely) result is if they came back with a Pantone colour match or a CMYK colour breakdown for the yellow, but even then, how do you translate that into a particular blend of hobby paints?

I haven’t read anyone else with this issue but my Bumblebee’s neck is super crazy tight. Almost to the point where I feel like lm going to snap the plastic just turning the head. Anyone else experiencing this?

On one of my copies, yes. I don't think you have to worry about anything breaking, but mine has popped off twice.

@TigerBlade , love the TF/MotU mashups! He-Man was the first thing I was nuts for around 4yo and my focus on those toys is one of the things that kept me from jumping into TF toys until a year after they debuted (though I watched the TF cartoon religiously from day one). It didn't help either that many of my favorite characters from the cartoon didn't look as cool to me in toy form, Bumblebee and Prime among them. So glad that's fixed - it was worth the wait!
