So.... raging over tampos...but not the fact that the wings still don't line up Such are the priorities...
Apparently Bandai is telling Japanese users that it will be corrected in the next batch So a lot of them are rightfully pissed. Arcadia for all their crap at least tries to make it right when there is a huge mess.
The misaligned tampo is not ideal but it's a relatively small part of the whole valkyrie. It's not like the red and black stripes on it's chest were inverted or the heat cover had an emoji instead of a skull is it? I do think that with the amount of detail and tampos on the 1/48, this whole beast was made with DYRL colourschemes in mind. TV versions do not translate as well with the added detail, and that's from a guy waiting for the 1A Max all his life. Looking forward to Roy's and the DYRL Skull Squadron releases. DYRL Kakizaki 1/48 [Yamato] was my first ever Macross purchase so I'll be hard-pressed to skip that one
Yea the tampo mapping definitely looks more fitting given the way the mold surfaces were designed. I'm in for a TV Roy, DYRL? Hikaru 1A and Max 1S. Also VF-1D.
I'm not familiar how hardcore JP fans/collectors are but do we really see them returning their purchases? Lol! The price seems to have plateaued at 24-25K Yen. Amazon JP still isn't offering it internationally. As far as I can see, what's available in the secondary market seems to be dwindling as well. HLJ still has open orders to be filled. If Bandai is saying that it will be fixed in the next batch (source? Is it on the same announcement they made for the tampo excuse?), are we assuming there's a reissue happening soon?
Well...at least one of yours does None of them align on mine. Probably. I just don't get the outrage over something like this that can be easily fixed. The wings however, from what I remember in this thread when the 1J was released...yeah not so much.
Wait, next batch? Next batch of this version (Hikaru VF-1S) or the next version? Would be nice if they made a second run right now for others to get.
I am 100% certain there will be a Hikaru 1S reissue. Macross is niche but it's the equivalent of only releasing an RX78 Gundam once. Some of the more out there Macross colour schemes I don't see getting second releases [looking at you, 1A Max, eventual 1A Kakizaki] but the hero valk? Definitely out again or with different bells and whistles to justify a slightly altered release. See VF31 Messer/Hayate and the VF31J Hayate/Hayate Kai. Had I received or if I ever get a 1S Hikaru, chances are it's staying in -that- battroid pose with FP so I doubt I'd ever see the misaligned tampos. Or even care to be honest. Loose joints bother me more than that
Speaking of tampos, I do feel Bandai overtampoed it, especially the super/strike packs. I do prefer the ss packs to be a bit cleaner. Oh well, 1st world problems.
Ah right. Forgot the hero variants tend to get at least one more run. But not so soon after the first run.
I think they were trying to go for a more "realistic" look for the Valks when they did that. To be honest, when I used to put together plastic models, they always came with decals that are similar to what Bandai tampo'd onto the Valks. Those who were really into the realism for the models would put em on. Though I honestly never did But after having seen real fighter jets...yeah, I can understand the novelty of Bandai doing this I appreciate it, but wouldn't care if it didn't come with em either way since I never really saw most of these tampos on the Valks in the cartoons. Either that or I wasn't really paying enough attention
I didn’t see anything that mentioned Bandai was going to reissue Hikaru’s 1S with a fix. Only thing I saw was Bandai state the tampo was not a mistake and they did it that way on purpose. As for if it will be reissued or not, I have no doubt someday in the future it will happen but not just because of the tampo and it could even come with the same tampo based on their current stance. I don’t care about the tampo either way. I just hope I can get one at regular price and would rather hope for nice tolerances on the joints and latches and wings that line up.
Not a “real” fix but someone (sorry, forgot username) adjusted the flaps a bit and that helped them line up the wings when folded. Basically, they used the flaps to push the wings towards better alignment.
That was @NeoMatter that did it with the DX 1J. Its buried somewhere upon hundreds of pages back. He might have also posted on both the DX VF-1 thread and Macross Maintenance on MW.
