I love this thread because of the positive vibes. YES there are MULTIPLE MP scale Megatron and they are all awesome in their own way. I sold my dx9 and the friend who bought it was STOKED. I still have 3 different mp36 KOs, despotron, and Appollyon and I like them all for different reasons.

There IS NO QUESTION though that this is the version that looks best put up against MP10. (I use despotron as my IDW Megs, and the MP36 KOs are matched up with the two newer 3p OPs with okne earmarked for the inevitable MP44 KO)

Hmmn, I'm not so sure about that. I own Apollyon, Despotron, Mightron, Bold Forms, Magten, IT, THF, Gold chromed KO etc as well as a stack of other non-g1 Megtrons. And matching Primes for pretty much all of them.
To me, MP-36 look equally good with MP-10, MS and TE. (I don't own 44 so can't comment on that). Apollyon's proportions are a bit too lanky, chunky and awkward for me with MP-10. I actually have him paired with ToyWords Primorion. He's a smidge too short but muck about with his feet and Primorion's thighs and you can get them looking pretty close.
I alsways liked Apollyon but I never felt he did a perfect job as a toon styled Megatron or evan an early "Hasui" style MP. To me, 36 nails the Toon look and I always felt that Mightron was probably the closest to that Hasui era look. Apollyon was a weird outlier.
He fit better with those slightly out of place figures like Quakeblast and Citizen Stack... figures that departed from the straight G1 looks and went for a more robust and slightly Classic influenced look.
He still has a place on my Optimus/Megatron shelf though.

I am in the MP-10 vs Apollyon camp.

    Then...

MP-44 vs Magic Square "Light of Freedom"

    That's how I do.

I found Apollyon matched best with MP10 based on pictures and reviews alone. I've never owned Despotron or Mightron but Apollyon seemed to fit perfectly with MP10 proportionally to me. Similiar sized thighs, hips the same level, bot had a classic-ish tranformation.

Despotron was a bit too stylised with the helmet and hips to really fit imo and Mightron was a tad taller than MP10 if Im not mistaken. I never thought Mightron looked like an MP. He had an amazing face sculpt (I didnt like the helmet shape) but his proportions made him look top heavy, especially with that odd shaped fusion cannon.

MP36 looked so awful next to MP10 that I actually felt that MP36 was a failure at the time. His legs looked so long and his forarms so puny.

Its all subjective of course, but for my money Apollyon was the only one that looked right next to MP10.

Yeah, I echo this sentiment and I actually had every version of Megatron. Apollyon--by design--matched MP10's proportions: foot to knee, knee to hip, hip to waist, waist to chest, chest to head, you can draw lines and they pretty much match exactly between the two.

Despotron had some kind of weird 'bloopy' shapes that made him categorically not match with other G1 MPs. He looked like an upscaled, transformable... damn, I'm blanking on the name of the toyline, but they did Optimus, Megatron, and I think Starscream among a bunch of other anime characters and franchises, from EVA to straight up humans... the joints weren't ball joints but looked like little balls... anyway, it looked like that. Like a Dreamwave take on Megatron. I still have it, because I like its charm, but it doesn't fit with the rest of my main G1 display. Mightron was good but had little niggling things that bothered me: the uncovered flanks, the wrong leg shape and the upper leg being weirdly placed relative to the centerline of the lower leg, the funky hands... but it did a lot right aside from the face sculpt, such as the awesome and innovative transformation, the collapsible 'fusion cannon', the awesome spear accessory (which I kept -- with the buyer's knowledge -- when I sold mine, LOL).

way back in the inception of this thread, the designer for apollyon (589? 598? something like that) said he specifically referenced MP-10s proportions when designing Apollyon. MP-36 of course doesn't. So just from an objective standpoint, you can say that apollyon matches MP-10 "closer" than MP-36 just by virtue of design intent.

I will always have my Apollyon toe to toe with MP-10. They were made for each other. That said, they occupy their own shelf now, and IT-Megs battles it out with TE-Op with the main cast.

Loved Apollyon, but I regret the day I decided to transform it. Believe me, I'm not some cack-handed lummox who mauls these figures, but I still ended up breaking it in three places. Plus after I changed it back to bot mode, the hips refused to tab together properly and he kept shelf diving. Had to glue his hips together in the end just to get him to stand.

Probably just unlucky, but I've been wary of XTB stuff since then. Such a shame, because Apollyon is easily the best looking of the third party Megatron's for me.

The hips on mine have become a bit loose in his old age. Any time I move him, I have to put them back... He's like a toddler running around the house ripping off his diaper every chance he gets lol

Yeah the transformation was a nightmare, I'm not gonna lie. I did it ONCE and that was IT, and it was terrifying. As a toy it's far below Despotron and Mightron. As a display figure though...

I had three copies of Apollyon and all three of them did that right out of the box. After the third one I decided he just wasn't for me and sent him packing down the same road as his two predecessors. Plus with Despotron, Mightron, and MP-36 in the house, there was just no good reason to deal with that annoyance.

Apollyon is still my guy. For me, I love how big and tough looking he is. No lie, though. The transformation is kind of a whole, scary deal, but that's Megatron for you.

    Hey guys!!

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I have a 2nd copy of Apollyon for sale that I had bought when it came out. Took him out of the box once just to give it a look over but has been in the box ever since! Check out my sale thread if interested. :)  Figured since I have MP36 and this too, I don't need 2 copies of this any longer. Keeping the Apollyon figure I do have in gun mode. :)

I wanted to display my Apollyon in gunmode so I made a display riser for him.

Very nice! Only thing is who uses the fake names? That’s only so they can sell them without pissing off Hasbro too much. That right there IS Megatron!

Well I have a similar stand for MP Megatron next to it. But to be honest I always have to look up the third party names as I just call them by their G1 name.

Nice display! I want to make something similar but I want to display my MP-36 in altmode hanging on the wall.
