    I don't think it's meant to be intimidating. Kind of the same deal as the alternate head for Meteor to mimic him getting strangled. Unless there's a particular shot of Dirge himself being freaked out, I want to say it's based on Thrust getting run down by Optimus Prime in The Movie.
