I almost feel obligated to get some version of Mazinger. I have no connection to the character or vintage toys...but not having at least one example kind of seems like a TF collection without an Optimus Prime.

    Edit: 1,000 pages! Woot!

The recent DC and Metal Build versions are both very nice. You are right that you gotta have some representation of it.

That's a lot of yen for one robot. A nice robot. But one robot.

Yeah, some of the lower prices I saw approached that. Still too much for me especially since I already own the 01-R. I love Mazinger, but I couldn't even pull the trigger on a used $500 Go-Lion back before the re-issue announcement, and I love Voltron much more. Thanks though. :)

Not sure if $300 but definitely a must have figure.

I ordered one from Mandarake and probably paid a little under $200. $200 feels right. I don't think I'd pay $300. Keep in mind I know nothing about the character/anime so have no emotional attachment.

Hard to say and depends on how you feel. I think north of 300 would be a bit much for it. It has okay articulation and can combine (though not perfect transformation; it's a parts former with left over parts). But it looks nice and can be displayed combined or in their ship modes on the display stand.

I loved the anime and the bot. So I did add it to my collection eventually. :)

Interestingly enough I watched Gunbuster a few days ago and loved it, though more for the characters and less for the actual robot, so I didn't recognize the above picture as being Gunbuster.

I finally shipped my loot with the SOC Dairugger and I think I've caught the SOC bug.

And the zany outrageous Sci-Fi... building ships like they are model pieces in a sprue? That was just classic over the top nonsense amid other things. Lol

Dairugger... still can't enough of it. It's sturdy and fun to mess with. I'm so busy playing more with it than taking pics. It's just so enjoyable to actually play with it and not have it end up like a museum statue piece (like GX-71 :p  )

When I saw the mechs exercising in the first episode I knew I was in for a fun watch and it was. Diebuster even moreso.

I assumed that might be the case! How do you like him? I mean, as a relatively basic Mazinger figure for someone who would like to add an entry-level Mazinger to their collection.

That GX-24R is a good deal. Cool SOC Classic character, diecast all over the place, light-up eyes and sounds. Good at $90, great at $90.

Like the other DC releases, old school SOC design plenty of diecast. Clean great paint, always better accessories than Mazinger. It’s a great SOC. I have so, so many SOC especially Mazinger so it all starts to run together but if your a fan of Great Mazinger you can’t go wrong. It’s possible the price comes down more because Great is never as popular as Maz. He is like his try-hard little brother with devilish looks, edgier, swords, better Scrander. But he wasn’t the first so... less credit. Sorry for the random thoughts.

Holy hell...I just checked out the pics for him on BBTS...his articulation is off the charts for an SOC...especially one shaped kinda like an Easter egg...lol.

All good thoughts, and thanks for the insights. I’m not terribly sure what drew me to Great vs. Maz...I think maybe the chest and the head, perhaps. And yeah, I really don’t think I could go too wrong with any of them.
