yeah? And what’s the alternative for generations collectors? Nothing? All because grown adults who play with toys are so offput by a shade of white? Spare me. It’s a figure you’ll play with till you move on to the next fix that you’ll either love or complain about and another after that and another.

Saw a few at Walmart this week in Florida. Did not know that was newsworthy.

The alternative is that you’re wasting money on a figure with poor execution, and you’re not settling for less. The fact they used nylon is really shady, and that alone should dissuade people from buying this pile of garbage.

I could care less about the shade of white they chose. It actually looks kind of cool like if it were glow in the dark. (Too bad it doesnt) Besides the CW Aerialbot limbs, when has a Hasbro version of a figure ever used the bright. bleach white we all like ? RTS Jazz ? Generations Drift ? I know its preferred, but who cares ? Its f**kin Apeface a figure we never thought we would see 3 years ago when they gave us that little POS titan master with the mini ape ship/gun. Be happy we got him and a verbal conformation at a convention pannel that Snapdragon is on the way.

I don’t even know what that is and I honestly don’t care since I’ve had apeface for almost a month now and he’s not spontaneously combusting, catching fire, or crumbling in my hands. It’s a toy dude.

So many people upset about Apeface’s white portion.

    It’s color isn’t pure snow-white!
    It feels weird!!
    It’s, it’s ... NYLON!!!

Look, the way I see it, this is fuggin’ Apeface we’re talking about:

“Thoroughly obnoxious -- pounds loudly on his chest plates, insults everyone he talks to, knocks over anyone in his way, never changes his lubricant so he smells like a grease-encrusted turboworm, and spits fuel in public.”

Personally, I’m ok with his white portion looking a little scummy and feeling a little gnarly. Seems to fit his character.

Where is this information coming from?
Also, nylon IS a type of plastic. I've made a type of nylon before during an organic chemistry lab (a very messy lab session). It's a polyamide, if I recall.

From what I’ve seen the ‘nylon’ plastic was used as it’s more durable than regular plastic & the transformation tabs on Apeface are quite complex, it was actually a design choice done to aid stability.

Stands to reason, as it can be pretty robust; nylon monofilament fishing line, for example.

I don't get the criticism of the color. The G1 figure was NOT pure white -- It was off-white as well. Granted, this one is a bit more pearl in color, but it's NOT far off from the original toy. Hell, most transformers today are off white to varying degrees.

Oh, and forgive my ignorance, but isn't Nylon plastic? It's just produced differently...

According to this page, Nylon is a durable plastic that is used to replace metal bearings.

Nylon Plastic | Strong, Stiff, Bearing & Wear Material | Curbell Plastics

Can someone show an article that states that Nylon is weaker? Everything I've read says it's just as durable as traditional plastic and is resistant to yellowing. These should be positives for this figure.

If you have an article to back up your claim about Nylon being a weaker plastic, I am more than willing to read it. I've tried looking for an article that stated Nylon was worse than traditional plastics. I couldn't find one.

Update: People, go watch Rebirth. He is not anywhere NEAR pure white in the cartoon. This new toy is MUCH closer to his coloring from those episodes.

Real quick: Here is a screengrab of Apeface from Rebirth. Notice something? That's not even remotely close to white. The pearl color is fine for this toy. ApeSlug.jpg

I'll be honest, I was a little worried about the pearlescent color myself at first. My mind was only changed after I did a comparison to my G1 toy; The G1 toy isn't white either.

And now after reading about the Nylon, I don't think we have to worry about the toy turning into dust. I have a suspicion it will outlast everyone in this thread... Unless your Apeface toy is exposed to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Though I don't think the traditional plastic toys would hold up either at that temp.

Where are we getting this nylon s**t ? Is somebody with too much time on their hands lab testing the plastic ? Regardless of what the material is or isnt, it gets the job done. Its off white colored, deal with it. Yeah it sucks you dont have a brighter white Takara deco option like you did with RTS Jazz or Generations Drift. But anyone who was collecting back when those figures came out should appreciate the influx of G1 characters getting accurate homage figures. For newer collectors that are starting out with Seige or the last trilogy, stop being so damn picky. You guys are lucky you didnt have to go through the classics era where getting obscure G1 characters in toy form was just a dream. You didnt have to pay Botcon prices either.

Milenial collectors most likely. Wish they would just stick to grooming their beards and wine tasting.

I don't think that the debate is off-white vs pure white. I think that the criticism comes from how the detail just doesn't pop as much, with the pearlessence.

Yes, the alternative is nothing. Because, and I can't believe I have to say this,

    You don't
    HAVE
    to buy toys.

    Buying Apeface is purely optional.
If you're not bothered by the aesthetics, all the more power to you. Buy him.
    Hell, buy two. Buy twenty.

However, I personally feel like I overpaid, and I'm allowed to feel that way, just as you're allowed to think he's worth the asking price.

    Yeah, pretty much.
Also I think it's odd that a toyline that's otherwise been really generous with its paint apps skimped out on huge sections of this toy.

I think the big disconnect here is that the original stock photos for the most part now are digital renders, which will always look different than the final product. So far the only figure I had an issue with the changes from the renders to the final product in Siege was Red Alert. The amount of missing cybertronian lettering, etc, was sad.
