Trust me, I'd absolutely love for a proper update to all the G1 Prentenders whereby all three modes are somewhere between acceptable to excellent. But it's just not possible sadly.

You say that Hasbro keep changing design philosophy. That is true of the play pattern and gimmicks, but if feels to me that the opposite is true of the actual visual appearance. More and more characters are becoming stuck in an evergreen design. I've already said inner robot Bludgeon is extinct, but even the likes of G1 Bumblebee are critically endangered.

silly, anything is possible when you hold john warden at gunpoint. I mean making the pretenders small deluxes with leader esc armor that acts like the shell
yea but a guy who has octo in the name turning into a crab is stupid, can we allow for "artistic license" for things that are "very very dumb"

His shell at least has 8 limbs, four of them being cephlapod tentacles, two being arms that he could punch with.
I think the name was designed for the shell, and the inner bot was just an afterthought.

What I mean is that with Siege they introduced scale at smaller sizes with weathering and Cybertronian alt modes.
Now with Earthrise they introduce ultra G1 accurate alt modes and bot modes.
I'd love for that to continue for a while, but changes are they introduce something new in the third WFC instalment.

I kinda like your idea of giving him the hovercraft alt mode, but I also really like his G1 crab alt mode. It's got pretty colors.

I accept Hasbro smuggling space-gun modes into modern figures. Not crabs. We shouldn't need to hide our crabs!

I mean the lampost mode was "unnoffical" and I think no where on the box nor the instructions reflectors camera mode was shown. so I thing this would fall in that catagory

I'd rather them not be hidden too, but it's possible for sure.

I think the likeliest scenario is either similar to Cyberverse Spark Armor or if the shells were released as separate characters in a line gimmick.

Unless you mean PERFECTLY HUMANOID shells in which case the best bet is probably Super7 doing them on a 4 Horsemen MOTU buck.

    We're talking about Hasbro's crabs. =3

I'm actually picturing standard Star Wars Legends/PW Lightning Collection-sized figures with transformable backpacks.

That feels a bit far off for Transformers IMHO.

Even the Quintessons have transformation being added. And we aren’t getting any humans aside from that Bumblebee Charlie figurine.

The big dealbreaker I see is that you’d need to sell each at Leader size to do that at mass retail.

It might work if you focused on Classic Pretenders and Botcon Megatron/Optimus, setting aside scale of either humanoid mode but I don’t see it working well for individual Pretenders outside of Bludgeon and Octopunch.

IMHO, it works better as part of a Beast Wars line where they can have a 1:12 scale focus.

And if you go 1:18 with Battlemaster backpacks, maybe you could get it down to deluxe pricepoint but it scales with nothing.

I think outside of a Beast Wars focus, maybe you do them as musclebound 5.5s to compete with the new Masters of the Universe. That puts them in comics scale.

And I know, I know. Scale-schmale for many folks here but scale is important for one reason: a play and display ecosystem with narrative shelf presence.

The next best thing I could see would be a slight upgrade on PotP’s take where you make the shells battle master sized with a focus on playability but since you need a transformation aspect, you pair a Battlemaster sized shell (poseable, non transforming) with a MM sized bot that attaches for $12.99ish.

Not exactly sure about the play eco system there as they can’t really interact with larger scale figures well unless, again, you’re going Beast Wars and just keeping the 1:35ish scale so maybe Cheetor gets a saddle peg and so on and the Pretenders can joust on the Maximals and Predacons.

I want it to work and have made a similar suggestion but I’m having trouble meshing it with case assortments, play patterns, etc.

You bring up some very good points. my ideal Pretender situation(scaled inner bots with small, scaled "shell" accessories that are fully articulated but don't house anything) is pretty far off, I thought I'd throw out something I'd think would be more plausible while keeping with Hasbro sensibilities. Curious to see how they'll tackle Beast Wars figures first, I suppose.

When did we find out that transformable Quintessons are coming though? Also, isn't there another human coming with SS Shockwave...?

Something I just picked up on while fiddling with the Micromasters from the 10-pack

Three of the head sculpts in the 10-pack were unique.
    • Ricon (the Highjump redeco) has Hydraulic's head and torso design
    • Irontread (Powertrain redeco) has Big Hauler's head and torso design
    • Cratermaker (Flak redeco) has Bombshock's head design
Bombshock, as we know, is getting a figure in Earthrise.

But what do the figures the redecos/retools were based on have in common?
    Their original toy release year.
Specifically, there were 6 regular non-combining Micromaster teams released in 1990.
Of them, we currently know of 2 that are absolutely going to be released. The Military & Hot Rod Patrols.

Half of each of the original six Micromaster teams was released in Siege, excluding Soundwave's cassettes & the Battle Squad

My guess is that the Monster Truck Patrol, the Air Patrol, the Construction Patrol, and the Race Track Patrol are going to get released during Earthrise alongside one or more of the Micromaster Combiner teams.

Voyager Quintesson came from a Hasbro Asia post that went up and got deleted.

    The subsequent anonymous leaks said:

It’s mostly black/gray rather than Silver.
It has an action feature that reminds people of Cyberverse. Possibly pressing the head down spins the faces.
    It transforms somehow.
