PHOOEY!!! both the BANDAI DX 1/48 and the KC 1/72 are horribly inaccurate, overpriced ripoffs!!! Now this... THIS Little Beauty IS WHERE THE SMART MONEY IS, BABY!!!!
Is that the 1/55 MP Toynami? Ehhhh....I have to respectfully disagree unless you purchased it at release. Then it's probably worth its retail price. Otherwise, it's my least favorite veritech. Speaking strictly of Robotech, KC wins the medal and even then it's a bit underwhelming when you look at Macross. The DX is superior along with the classic 1/55 Chunky. Even Yamarcadia slays this release. Though, I do appreciate the packaging / marketing attempt of these releases haha.
not to worry... i was quite intentionally being a Complete Wiseass back up there. as i've mentioned several times before, the BANDAI DX 1/48 is the ULTIMATE VF-1 toy to date, IMO. quite literally, it is the embodiment of the Virtually Perfect variable VF-1 toy i dreamed of having as a budding ROBOTECH cum MACROSS fan 20+ years ago...
I got a Rick just to put inside the Exo-Squad Veritech fighter...if they ever do a Dana, I have an Exo-Squad Hovertank waiting for her
Heh. I mentioned in my "review" that the KC figures are a breath of fresh air for Robotech fans who have gotten used to Toynami's figures over all these years. Looking at them as "Macross" figures, though... I think they're fun, and don't involve preorder madness, so I like them. But they're not quite to the level of Arcadia or Bandai. Anyways, depending on when you got into the hobby, it might be hard to believe, but for a short while the Toynami Masterpiece figures were top-end. Unless you could find an old 1/55, before the reissues, the only other figures available were Yamato V1 Valkyries. So if you wanted a "perfect transformation"... Toynami was the only option. I worked for Gamestop at the time and our customers went nuts for them. Of course, Yamato's 1/48 line launched shortly after - less than a year as I recall - and Bandai did the 1/55 reissues around the same time, so if you were able to buy from import stores in the early 2000s, it wasn't a very long time where Toynami was the only real option. For most US-based fans, though, the Masterpiece figures were as close as they were going to get to that "dream toy" for a long time.
custom paint job on the old MATCHBOX Miriya/Millia i've had lying around for about 20 years now. Lipstick on a Pig, and all of that, but i figured i might as well do SOMETHING with the stupid Bootlegged-looking thing... Needless to Say, things have come a good ways along since...
So far, I wouldn't call Kitzconcept assholes. I wanted to avoid them but after getting their products and dealing with their customer service, I would rate them as a top tier toy company. Their quality isn't #1 but their overall effort for providing fans with definitive figures and attention to detail is up there. If you are just referring to the HG license they paid for, I agree but chalk that up to a necessity of doing business and give them a pass for it. If you don't have any of their previous figures, you are in for a treat when you get Roy!
I just ordered their Rick Hunter. That was totally directed at HG. I begrudge any $$$ I give them but it doesn’t mean I am not drinking coffee from a Mars Base mug.
I loooove my Mars Base mug. I compartmentalize Robotech to a guilty pleasure of my brain. I prefer Macross, and I'm not going to dive into collecting anything Robotech outside of the Macross Saga, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy Robotech as a full series for its nostalgia in my life. (Though may it be noted for the record, this is exactly why I, too, hate HG. Because of nostalgia and HG keeping a good thing down.)
For anyone interested, Robotech is reselling some of their Matchbox styled classics right now like the mini SDF-1 and Battlepod. https://robotech.com/store This VF-1S seems a little steep though. It never transformed. So I wonder if these are originals or reissues? Robotech / Store / Classic 80’s Super Veritech
That’s the one thing that irks me about KC. I refuse to preorder from them anymore but will totally still purchase things after release.
https://www.amazon.com/HI-METAL-Dim...eywords=Bandai+hi+metal&qid=1575084307&sr=8-5 Is this a good figure to get?
Yes but cheaper to buy it from here: HI-METAL R 超時空要塞マクロス VF-1S バルキリー(マクロス35周年記念メッサーカラーVer.) 約140mm ABS&ダイキャスト製 塗装済み可動フィギュア https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B072DXDB74/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_YhE4Db8A9PTEG or if you can snag from here: Mandarake
That SDF-1 was always a floppy mess, but I've been wanting another pod for years. Thanks for the head's up!
