Simple project converting the standard retail Siege Megatron into his look from when he was stranded on Junkion. Literally just started this last night when I took an arm from the DNA Design upgrade kit for SS ROTF Megatron and started to think about that Quintesson rumour. This is the end result. Sorry for mess, still setting up my collection after moving. I previously applied the Reprolabels for the Megatron Origin look, though I will keep a few to make them look like scrap metal he grafted to himself to survive the hell that is Junkion. This is the intended look so to achieve that I plan on drybrushing, drilling an eye socket, making “scrap armor” that can peg into those 5mm ports, borrowing the cloak and chains from a SS DOTM Megatron, miscoloring his lower left leg and removing more of the “mining era” stickers. Any advice, suggestions or commentary is appreciated.
Megs leg resembles one of the PoTP molds, from Darkwing or cutthroat. Find a upsized one or mold it in their shape. Good luck.
The leg I’m eyeing is actually Siege Optimus. Due to Siege Prime just having superior legs overall compared to Megatron and feeling more solid, I feel like the weight balance will be thrown off by the shoulder pad and the far better foot articulation will compensate for this and allow for more dynamic posing. Plus it’s already blue and the greebles I’ll just find in my fodder bin and glue them onto the leg. Thanks, I just hope that Quintesson rumour is true. Having Megatron with Penitus in tow would make for great centrepiece.
Thanks, I wanted to integrate the whole arm from ROTF Megatron but it would’ve been too much a pain in the ass. I was surprised how easily the DNA arm attached to Megatron’s upper arm.
Update, found a proper leg (TR Galvatron) and I found cloak parts from some model kit that I put an order in for. The next thing is getting some small chains to drape around his cloak and for Penitus. For the cloak pieces I’m going to install 5mm ports into the smaller parts so they can be removed for action poses while the larger upper body piece will be glued in. On the other side, I’m going to glue the “propulsion” effect piece that allows the upcoming Quintesson figure to stand up onto a Warhammer 40k circular base, discarding the “chair” and letting me build up a bit of Junkion on said base Megatron himself is getting a much larger oval base that links to the 5mm port on this original foot and will have various dead Junkions and broken Sharkticons strewn about a toxic river.
Addendum, the large pauldron on the murder arm is made of the large “shield” or lens piece included with Refractor after the see-through part is removed. Also on the right leg there is a POTP Outback shield piece glued in, I’m going to glue some chains to make it look like armor he lashed to his body.
Well thank you, I’d punched out of the hobby for awhile. But you know how it goes, a few months off and they pull you back in.
Update time! I’m painting tonight, mainly the gouged eye, rust drybrushing and fully committing to painting the murder arm. It’s current state was more of a proof of concept. Also more drilling for true battle damage, thinking of having a spearhead lodged in his gut.
This looks fantastic, l like the choices here and concept. In my mind l am picturing a perfect right hand.....though it escapes me at the moment. From like a Marvel Legends figure maybe Lady Deathstrike or something. But the hand you have is working really great, and actually adds a bit more "real world" aesthetic.! Well done!
Well thank you, the monster hand is a design deviation and if I was going super comic accurate the hand I would go with is definitely SS DOTM Megatron. But this one not only fit into the existing upper arm with minimal modification required but also allows for expressive posing which is sadly something he lost a bit of. The Galvatron leg is fused at the upper swivel joint unfortunately.
Last post for awhile, additional chest details added, head ball joint tightened and the arm is being corroded/painted. Chains and cloak are gonna be awhile. Next up is the blue leg, tightening up the paint job and praying that the chains can at least arrive this month.
