By ‘clearcoating,’ do you mean just spreading some Pledge over the affected areas, or is there more to it that I’m missing? (I’ve only used Pledge in the past to tighten up joints so I’m a novice when it comes to other uses)

You can use a q-tip, the problem with future it takes almost a month to fully dry.

Thanks so much bud, that is high praise coming from you!! I love the idea of these two "locked in eternal combat;" I don't remember what sci-fi/fantasy/comic property that phrase came from but I always liked the sound of it :)

What are some options for a clear coat on the silver?

I haven’t been following this thread closely at all but I’m curious if anyone’s had shoulder ratchet issues. I just opened my second copy and one of the shoulders outward ratchets weren’t clicking nicely. So I opened up the shoulder and saw some of the red ratchets were ground down. I fixed it by meticulously recarving the ratchets and adding some grease. Anyway I checked the other side that felt fine and it was also getting ground down so I did the same fix.

After all that I checked my first copy and both ratchets felt fine but I checked them anyway and both were worn down some so I did the fix there as well.

I’m just wondering if this is a known issue or rampant. All I’ve ever heard about were the knees that were the issue.

I lucked out and snagged the last one off amazon japan a week ago from seller METALBOX. All together paid $343 for it and got it in about 4 days. I’d just keep checking there honestly. I went through the checkout for bbts and it would’ve been $487 shipped.

Might you recommend a quick coat of future on the gray rib areas too?

I have some small paint chips, can only see it getting eventually worse if I don't do something proactive about it now.

Future on the ribs works great. First thing I did on my second figure.

It was mentioned not long after it was released but not as frequently as the knee issue. Is there any way to pre-enptively mod the shoulder ratchets to prefect them from wearing down so quickly?

Guess you could lube them to cut down on friction.

Nice, did you just apply with a cotton bud then? Does that not leave brush marks?

I use a small brush. Future is self leveling so just leave it to dry and you shouldn't get any brush strokes :)

    The situation today ...
Off work this Monday due to a bad ankle strain yesterday, so I've had time to transform my MP-44. It's always a great moment and I love it. The figure shows some signs of wear obviously with a few paint chips. But hey, I've probably repiteadly transformed it more than twenty times. So yes, there's a loose waist and loose hips but I still think MP-44 is pretty solid and can strike any pose while aging.

I admire the figure so much (a child's dream) that he stands on the breakfast table nearly every morning. My wife is getting worried lol but she has to admit that MP-44 is an amazing toy.

Anyway, all this love made me buy another copy which unfortunately had the knee issue right from the box. But thx to "Ratchet" this is no longer a problem :)

My MP-44 is now waiting for his mate Bumblebee ...

Yeah, Future will do, though I think something like Mr Hobby semi-gloss clear would be more durable.

I did recommend the ribs, brother ;)  That's probably the area that needs it most!

Hope your ankle's feeling better, pal! Bummer your second copy had a bad knee out of the box but great to hear how quick n easy the fix is. Even better to hear that I'm not alone in carrying this guy around the house! Besides being my office deskbot, I also usually stand him on the sink while I'm doing dishes or making dinner or on the lamp table if I'm reading. God bless our wives!

    Nice!

Do you have to take apart the whole figure to apply pledge/future or can you just do it carefully on the figure in robot mode?

Do you do more than one layer?

How long does it take to dry before you can start handling it?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Just wanted to say that my original repair to both knees(the typical blue piece wouldn't enter the groove) right out of the box from the AmazonJP is holding up perfectly. I used this JB Weld, it can be found at Walmart as well.

If you're using it to protect a surface, just brush it over the surface. Let it dry an hour then apply another coat. Give it a day before it's not tacky anymore and you can start handling it, but I've seen it said it takes a few weeks to fully cure.

If you're using it to tighten a joint, just drip a little in the joint, work the joint back and forth a dozen or so times really let it get in there. Repeat after an hour or so and it should be much tighter a day later. Repeat as needed.
