Only thing I can think is that they didn't want to have just a couple pieces of translucent blue on a sprue? Still, seems a lot more costly to paint it, and it's not like there's a ton of pink pieces either.
Maybe the original plan was for the cockpit to not be transparent and at the last second there was a change made? Maybe someone looked at it and said "People are going to think there's no cockpit because the jet nose doesn't open so mold the real cockpit in something that makes it obvious." I'm reminded of how Elita-1's combiner feet are molded in the same pink plastic as some of her other pieces but are then painted black for...no discernible reason.
You can also totally fit his ape head (with headmaster) into the bottom of the jet cockpit rather than having to put the guy into the back end cockpit
It's funny, I just had a 5 minute mild panic where I thought I had left the headmaster somewhere because I forgot it was still attached to the ape head in the jet cockpit.
I'll have to give that a try. The time I tried it didn't sit as flush as without. But then the big grinning ape teeth under the nose is kinda neat. "Damnit Apeface pull your head out of your ass."
I almost feel like they tried to make it so that he could be in the actual jet cockpit in robot mode but couldn't get it to fit right and just went 'eh screw it, two cockpits'. XD ::EDIT:: Actual sighting! Found Rumble/Ratbat at Bloomington Target. Nothing else new (unless you're looking for Mirage or impactor). They probably had the other new micromasters in the back (since the peg was pretty full of lazerbeak/ravage and rescue team), but I didn't have time to ask.
Hot Comics in Richfield still had some G1 goodies. Picked up a complete Blitzwing, a reissue Ratchet complete with box, Topspin and Twin Twist (who need a bit of cleaning), and an incomplete Gnaw (missing his tail mace, gun and shark mode arms).

Yeah, Edina target had 2 sets of the micromasters, so I picked up the cars for me and cars n' tapes for Thybrid so we could benefit from the b2g1. There's still one set of Ratbat/Rumble left. I'm praying that Astrotrain shows up this weekend so I can get the 25% off coupon on him.

North St Paul Target got in two sets. Looks like someone snagged both BB/RS sets. All turtles were still there yesterday. I picked up the last set of foot soldiers. It could be possible that BB/RS were never there, but I can’t imagine that, as all the other sets were there.
Edina target: A couple PowerPunch/Direct hits, no ratbat/rumble. One SS ironhide tucked towards the back, some barricades. EP Target: Nada interesting EP Walmart: Lots of impactors, mirages, barricades. That's about it. Bloomington Walmart: Same as EP
St.louis park and Knollwood Target are a wash. Knollwood does have 3 of the Bebop & Rocksteady 2 packs
Grabbed a couple this morning. A fair number remain. They also have a decent selection of the 35th figures in the toy section near Subway. Nothing exciting at the IGH Target.
