I'll echo what others have said: it depends on what you take for continuity. But whatever you do, you have to really squint your eyes to make everythng fit.

I've posted this elsewhere, but when the RiD toys were released I expecting this to be a direct sequel to BW/BM. A sequel in which predacon Megatron travelled to the past again in an attempt to influence the end of the war and to prevent final Decepticon defeat. We had Combaticon like Decepticons and a Scourge (maybe the leader after Galvatron and Cyclonus were gone), while the Autobots had familiar characters like Optimus, Magnus, (X) Brawn and Prowl. The other Predacons could then be remaining stasis pods.

Sadly, this was not the case. But then, we hadn't had a reboot yet in (western) TF fiction and everything up till then had been one continuity. (And later I saw BM and learned that it wasn't even possible considering that ending.)

Dreamwave comics ? That storyline was aborted before it could prove that it didn't fit. Before that, they even show Ratchet leaving the Ark through a backdoor that's clearly meant to be doors covering the entrance in BW season 3.

Obviously because he posted something news worthy in the news section before anyone else did. That's the only way to get a news credit.

The real question is... how exactly does anyone find Transformers news in the first place... like all my news comes FROM HERE. I'm not sure where anyone gets their information from before it's posted here.

I think there's a whole other topic on this in the news section. Check the sticky threads.

Irony, you start out by saying we should stop thinking so much about things in continuity with each other then go on to over think how Beast Wars is in continuity with G1.

Beast Wars II and Beast Wars Neo actually have BEAST in the name just like Beast Machines and the original Beast Wars. That's the whole reason it's collectively referred to as "The Beast Era" in the first place. The Beast Era is everything from Beast Wars to Beast Machines.

Car Robots/Robots in Disguise may have a similar art stye to the Japanese Beast Wars and include Predacons with the same insignia as the Beast Era Predacons but it's not actually a Beast Era show.

Same engineering as Beast Wars because the toys are literally Beast Wars repaints. And it's actually not that different to Armada because Armada also included Beast Wars repaints. Really Energon was the first Post-Beast era toy line with no Beast Era repaints.

Oh and I almost forgot that Universe existed... mainly because most of that toy line consisted of HORRIBLE repaints. They were ALL repaints, there wasn't a single new mold in the entire toy line but it's debatable how good or bad those repaints were. I quite liked Universe Depth Charge because they gave him a more organic color scheme and Night Slash Cheetor is quite possibly the best representation of Beast Machines Cheetor that was available at the time in toy form but most of the other toys kinda looked like if you gave a box of crayons and a coloring book to a four year old. Non of the color choices made any sense.

A lot of G2 Repaints of G1 molds were kind of the same thing. lots of nonsensical color schemes that are painful to look at.

Anyway... like I said before RID is really only a part of the Beast Era in the sense that the toy line included molds intended to be Beast Machines releases. I don't think simply including beast era repaints makes it part of the beast era because if that were the case then we'd have to include everything up to Armada. I don't think we can include all new molds either because then everything up to Power of the Primes has to be included. I'm only semi including RID2001 as a pseudo Beast Era toy line because it includes three brand new molds that were intended as Beast Machines releases before the toy line was cancelled. Since those three figures exist in a weird limbo between Beast Machines and RID2001 where they were made for one toy line and released in another then yeah it's part of the Beast Era by technicality. It shouldn't be though since those figures aren't actually suppose to be in that toy line.

It's kinda like how the over stalk of Armada Unicrons was repackaged and sold as part of another toy line. There were no changes made it was literally the exact same figure they just repackaged it because those things had been on the shelf so long stores didn't want them anymore. It was kinda weird seeing Armada Unicron and Energon Unicron sitting on the shelf right next to each other. And at one point I seem to recall seeing Armada Unicrons being sold inside of Energon Unicron packaging which just made it even more weird.

Except he didn’t. He just asked a question. It wasn’t news or newsworthy. And since the news credit seems to have been taken away, it’s moot now.

Not irony at all. Simply illustrating how ridiculous continuity is and thus why it's pointless to worry about it so much. Good job missing my whole point.

I've never thought of 2001RID as being part of the "Beast Era". I've always thought of it as being, as others have already stated, a transitional series between two eras.

I wish RID had been dubbed in such a way as to tie into G1. It wouldn’t have been too hard. In TF the movie, it appears as though the Decepticons had been driven from earth, based on the fact that they had to sneak on board the Autobot shuttle to get close to earth. In RID, they could have explained that most of the original Autobots left earth to chase the Decepticons back to Cybertron. A few Autobots stayed behind and took new forms, along with a few new recruits, and stayed in hiding to protect the earth. Heck, they could have written it so that Megatron was actually Beast Wars Megatron from the future. A show with G1 Optimus voiced by a Peter Cullen vs. Beast Wars Megatron voiced by David Kaye would have been awesome.

I still love the show as is. But I would have loved it even more if it had tied into G1.

thats not the impression I got at all

Earth never seemed that secure, not even in season 3 ....we saw decepticons coming and going from earth like it was a Neighborhood dollar store Or a corner at bodega

They needed the shuttle and I sneak a attack force into autobot city......And that’s a completely different thing than just trying to get on earth

I kind a like the idea but I don’t find it very likely that they could’ve explained off why optimus and the others would have taken new updates modes body change into a firetruck and then revert back to their 70s+ car modes trailer before the events of the movie

At least I can’t conceive of an exclamation that I would’ve be down for

It appeared as though the Decepticons all were on the ship rather than being joined by Decepticons already on the planet. One way or the other, for the purposes of my idea for RID, it wouldn’t contradict TFTM to say that the Decepticons had been driven from earth.

It could be stated that once the Decepticons were driven away, the people of earth wanted the Autobots gone too. But secretly, some Autobots stayed behind in case the Decepticons returned. That would explain why they took different forms. As to why they would go back to their original forms, I admit that isn’t as clean. There could be a line in the last episode about how they no longer need their disguised forms since the world knows they are there anyway.

I admit that last part is clunky. But for the purposes of tying the show into G1, I could live with it. Even the original Sunbow run had a few odd explanations for things. I would have only made a few Autobots be returning characters from Sunbow. Optimus Prime (obviously), Prowl, Mirage. I would make R.E.V. into Bumblebee and W.A.R.S. into Cliffjumper. If they got Peter Cullen to come back they could have turned X-Brawn into Ironhide. Beyond that, I would have kept the rest of the Autobots as new characters, including Fortress Maximus (just call him Brave Maximus) and Ultra Magnus (Delta Magnus?). It might have worked to have made Dr Onishi and Koji be Spike and Daniel. Then there would be a reason for why this random boy gets contacted by Optimus Prime, because of his father’s history with the Autobots.

I only offer a way that I think it could work, albeit not perfect. I’m sure a professional writer could have done something much better. I just think RID would have benefited more from being tied into G1. It would have made the show more important to the overall Transformers franchise. As it is, it just sort of drifted into obscurity.

Because it's interesting to people? Why do you or he feel the need to dictate the terms of the conversation? Shouldn't that be up to the original poster? If all you care about is the toys and engineering or whatever, feel free to start your own thread and use those guidelines. The thread starter was interested in timelines. This is his topic.

Yeah pretty much what I would expect since the idea was a sneak attack

Then I guess you’re right it really wouldn’t contradict much considering that they explain where the missing combiners were in the film

But as far as my thinking, I don’t think the autobots were capable of driving them off of earth
I can’t buy that as a need for different forms

It’s not like humans could identify them from other vehicles, hell even ironhide couldn’t tell Redalert from a regular car

It’s not like changing Vehicle forms was an easy thing to do in the G1 era, it seem to be a large undertaking for just a simple temporary change to hide from humans who couldn’t tell who they were anyway from every day vehicles, it doesn’t really make any sense
That would make even less sense, and please I mean no disrespect I just really can’t buy that, and if they want to use such writing I would probably end up not liking the show

Dr Onishi and Koji....Spike and Daniel? That’s an extreme stretch, Remember visual appearance is a factor when you’re trying to keep things in a single continuity, and this would be far more than just some variance in the appearance , their ages don’t match and neither do their ethnic backgrounds

I know you didn’t exactly put a year on this but we are talking about a period of time between 1986 and 2005.....so a rough guess would put the show taking place around 2000 to 2002, well Dr Onishi was a Very Asian going gray adult male Who happened to be an archaeologist and an expert in the use of energy.....Which would put him in his 40s but maybe late 30s well before 2005

Spike is a very white American male who didn’t reach 35 until 2005. Likewise that would put Koji and about 12 before 2005, And Daniel was only about 11 in the film

Even if Some professional writers came up with a plot for it I doubt many G1 fans would have been happy about it, And I don’t even want to think of the crazy debates that would be going on over it

Personally I feel that the best way to tired to G1, other than what they did in Japan would be to set the show 40 or 70 years after the Sunbow cartoon ended, Basically sometime into the future after the rebirth episode and earth having not been visited by transformers for quite some time

Except he didn't actually talk about timelines. As Chris McFeely already pointed out.

But I don't want to dictate to people how they should have a discussion. If people want to talk about continuity, then go ahead. I just felt like there was a more unique discussion topic being proposed by the original post.

Chris is not the thread starter. Kaijuguy is. Kaijuguy brings up timelines.

He mentions how both shows have beast era characters, both show and toy wise, despite it not being canon with other shows. I think it's reasonable to interpret that as talking about how the various Beast Era shows, Beast Wars, Beast Machines, BWII, BW Neo and Car Robots/RID link up thematically and spiritually and toy wise rather then continuity wise. Please stop accusing me of ignoring the original post.

Chris had one interpretation of the thread starter. You clearly have another. Unless Kaijuguy19 literally says you are correct and we should only talk about timelines, then how do you know you are not the one misinterpreting his question? You accused me of dictating how people should discuss the topic, but aren't you doing the same thing?

Yeah, he showed interest in both. Then your and Chris' response was that people should stop talking about continuity/timelines. I'm not saying he can't be interested in both. I never sais anyone shouldn't be talking about the toys. I'm saying it's not up to you to decide for other people what they should be interested in and talk about.

actually addressing timelines is a moot point as the thread starter already clarified that he is aware that rid/car robots is a seperate timeline, so further discussion on that front is not actually necessary if you really pay attention to his question

As people have already said in length:

    Hasbro - no

    Simple as that.

    Hasbro - no
Takara - originally no, then later yes due to retcon

I agree here. "Era" is not the same as "continuity".

But I think that as with continuity, the answer still comes out to "eh, kinda?" It's transitional from almost any angle you could look at it, including the toys. It includes a bunch of TM2 beast repaints of non-show characters, sure. It also includes several repaints from G2, G2 "Go-Bots", and G1. Out of the few brand new molds, it has some vehicle transformers with Beast Era style engineering. But those characters have head sculpts that look less like Beast Era faces and more like what we'd get later in Armada (and more so what we'd get in Cybertron). Beast Era engineering itself is just an extension of G2 engineering anyhow. Furthermore, if you were to take the Beast/G2 engineering and the G1 engineering from this line and smoosh them together, you'd get Armada engineering. It's an amalgam clear across the board.
