I think when Megs killed the DJD was my favorite fight in the whole of that era. He was miles ahead of them and didn't even want to do it. It was like he was beating his sons.

What fight did you guys enjoy.

Sideswipe from back in his Spotlight issue, against Straxus and Grindcore. Loved the art and the story and the character beats.

    Wtf.

The fight between Prime and Megatron all the way back in the -tion series. Megatron pulling out Prime's spark casing was damn cool.

Excuse my ignorance, but does best not mean a singular instance? Or are you giving all of those a tie for best?

I think Spotlight: Jazz deserves a mention. While the plot is nothing to write home about, E. J. Su's art and Jazz's sweet kung-fu moves were a sight to behold.

Megatron v. Devastator: All Hail Megatron

Bonus mention, Megatron's complete and nuanced dismantling of Starscream in Spotlight Megatron. I'm sure I'm a bitter old man. But after 37 years, my pity well has run dry for Starscream and it's always satisfying seeing him put in his place.

I don't know about "best fight", but I enjoyed Sixshot vs. the Throttlebots. After all that ridiculous buildup about how powerful he was, we finally got to see it over the course of an entire issue versus some actual transformers instead of "random ass alien boogum death squad". That was nice.

I also enjoyed the few bouts we got to see of Optimus Prime: Supercop.

The Optimus, Arcee, Soundwave tag team on Galvatron at the end of All hail optimus was satisfying. Arcee was up close keeping him off balance, prime went in for some punches and soundwave was shooting at him from a distance.

Honestly? I think none of the IDW writers were particularly good at fight scenes. I give a lot of grief to Roberts for his, but that's mostly because he tried to make them big, significant moments. Most fight scenes in IDW ranged from bad to merely forgettable.

Oh, wait, no - Combiner Wars part 3, the Superion/Devastator/Defensor fight. Say what you will about Livio's art, but that entire battle was amazing. Superion turning his leg into an arm to punch a hole in Devastator? Defensor launching his Blades arm off as a missile? God damn, that was great.
(Also, the amazing line "They do call Superion "Superion", and that is for a reason. And it isn't Superion's paint job." - Superion)

I really liked Overlord vs the wreckers at the end of LSTOTW.

Any flash back scenes with street cop Orion Pax were some of my favorites too.

More often than not, Roberts' fight scenes feel like just an excuse for the characters to strike cool poses and shoot and random stuff off-screen while engaging in witty banter. There are some nice set pieces here and there, but for the most part they just feel like fluff to go with the techno babble exposition and emotional character interations without complimenting or supplementing them in a meaningful way.

This video is a great summation of all the stuff I love about good fight scenes, I think it's worth watching even if you don't care much for manga\anime:

I agree with Boatformer that most of the fights in IDW1 were pretty meh. I would probably say Megatron vs Starscream in Spotlight Megatron (if you can even call it a fight) is my favorite, as it actually lasted for a significant page count but still had fun character beats.

I'd have to reread it to be sure, but I thought Nova Prime vs. Orion Pax/Optimus during Dark Cybertron was pretty good.
