You got the whole sword, just need Downshift for the shield, the Swindle retool.

I looked it up, but wasn't sure if they were 100% identical.

Primus is by far and away my favorite of the two planet-formers that I have.

You should change them again anyway, to make sure they don't corrode. My Vector's batteries were so corroded the spring broke. Won't work at all now.

The space-year 2005 was a different time. The Star Wars prequels were still fresh, the nostalgia boom was still fresh, Eminem's rhymes were still fresh. We defeated Unicron and painted sexy flames on our camper vans to attract the attention of elderly swingers. And Cybertron was the hottest newest hottest thing for the Transformers. By which I mean "the exact same thing as three years ago, only now with keys you will invariably lose instead of minicons you make the effort to keep". Yeah, I lost Vector Prime's key years ago. Shut up.

I dunno, man. VP seemed like such a big deal at the time. He was basically Obi-Wan Kenobi as a giant robot, without having to be that Obi-Wan Kenobi robot. He has a lightsaber of a sort, plenty of cautious Jedi brown, and he's an older fella. Perfect! He even turns into something vaguely approximating that baddy ship from the Phantom Menace, although also covered in little gears to show he's a total steampunk poser, as well as a great big cape made from his alt mode kibble. All he needs are some goggles hot glue-gunned onto a top hat and the look would be complete.

But the new hotness of 2005 is looking a bit on the clunky side these days. Cybertron thankfully restored a full range of articulation to its toys after the wilderness years of Armada, but the thick heavy joints and limbs make it hard for him to not look awkward. We complain today about how light and hollow modern toys can be, but it does at least come with the bonus of slimming down proportions so they aren't quite so chunksome.

It's worse in alt mode. Those big hefty calves and shins are even more tough on the eyes when just stuffed underneath the spaceship proper. Sure, you don't have to be particularly streamlined in space, but that doesn't mean the underside has to stick out this much. Admittedly, the same problem exists with the modern Siegeseekers, so perhaps we've not come on too far, but there's no real reason that Vectoria's Secret here couldn't have lost a lot of bulk from his lower half and still come out looking good.

You do get a minicon as well, and he's one of the better ones. Robot and spaceship mode both look good, although it has a tougher time passing as a convincing wrist-mounted gun, thanks to the obvious wings and tail fins. Stick to what you know, little robot chap, you make for a good fighter drone to detach from the mothership.

So this week and last week the focus has been on non-G1 toys that can be retrofitted into a G1 CHUG collection, but the more I look at Victor Vector* the less convinced I am that there's a place for him. His role was thoroughly usurped a few years ago by the previous incumbent, Alpha Trion, and there's no real need to have them both. They both fill the role of 'wise old dude', you know, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and aside from the visual stylings there's little to really tell them apart. It'd be like having Hot Rod and Bumblebee and Cheetor all in a show together, and that'd never ever happen. Cough.

[QUOTE = "Override Prime, post: 17321575, member: 125700"] So uh, I was out thrift shopping, as I do, when I came across ... Well ...

An absolute mess of minicons.Neat little friendos one and all.Trouble is, I don't know who any of them are outside of Sonar, Sureshock, Grindor, and Highwire. If anyone could tell me their names and who they came with, I'd be extremely grateful.

S kinding of the four who's names I know, they were actually childhood toys. And damn is it nice to see them again! I kinda wish the modern micromasters were pack-ins with bigger figs.I can never bring myself to buy them separately, even though I love tiny transformers.

You know, sometimes you get really, really screwed by HasTak. And this for me, is one of the worst times.

I'm not a G1 cartoon guy (marvel and toys for me), but my absolute favourite G1 character from the cartoon was Ironhide. Menawhile, with the toys I Always had a special place for Roadbuster (he even lead my Autobots for a while because I couldn't find a Rodimus Prime figure)

And then this guys is released:

    SL A--Roadbuster-Wild -- 02ek1200.JPG

Ironhide with Hasbro and Roadbuster in Japan. Two important characters from me united in the same figure. And it's not a great figure….or a good figure….or even a mediocre figure...

An altmode that looks like a kids toy and has the head blatantly visible on top and those aweful lower legs. (I often put them in combined mode because it just looked better, albeit comically oversized and with joints at the wrong places).

Yet, the Superlink version is a lot better than the Hasbro version. Not just thanks to the added energon axe, but also thanks to the shoulder panels being pinned. And comparing it to present day mainline figures, he's incredibly solid. Built like a rock and believable as the rough G1 Ironhide or the Wrecker Roadbuster. (Okay, the character was an inexperienced, annoying Rookie, but I think I've been punished enough.)

Favourite is the super obvious giant speaker looming behind his head. Don’t worry fellow Autobots, Ironhide will save the day with sound effects!

Seriously. I’ve been pretty patient waiting on news, but if we hit that one year mark (which would be February?) without news I’m going hog wild.
