Yeah I always thought Weaving did a fantastic job as Megatron. I think a lot of people just dislike his performance on principle since “it’s not Welker!”.

Having said that, I wonder if Welker auditioned for Movie Megatron using his G1 voice (if he even auditioned at all). That would have been terrible. It’s a great voice, but not for that iteration of the character. (Didn’t he use his G1 Megatron voice in the movie tie-in game?)

His Megatron voice for The Last Knight was great though, it would have been cool if he had been able to be Megatron from the beginning using that voice.

 

He did fine even though he admitted it was paycheck job. Though I'd have preferred it if Welker or a previous Megatron VA got the role instead.

I read Welker did audition for '07 but he couldn't do the original G1 Megatron voice without sounding very shrill.

 

I agree. Weaving was okay, but Welker is the best.

 

He's a joke, should've never taken the role. I cringe everytime megatron speaks in his voice.

 

Though Hugos Megatron is my favourite, i wouldnt mind having Welkers Prime/TLK voice for future versions of the character.

 

I think Hugo Weaving could have been fantastic if he had put more effort into it and had done more of his Matrix-esque low and calculating voice and less of his yelling growly monster voice.

Like this at 1:11. That's a fantastic Megatron voice imo
