Sociology; specifically 'Gender and Precarity in Early Career Academia'. While not an academic myself I do work at a University in a management and support role, so have a real appreciation of the content and can engage in all sorts of invigorating conversation about the nature of HE institutions, which is pretty cool. Touch wood, it's actually gone very smoothly for her, as she's clearly got a natural aptitude for research and is an excellent writer. So even when she's had her first draft back there's not been too much she'd had to amend, and certainly nothing structural. Which is nice. That said, she got dragged across the coals on a book review and is now carrying around some trauma, even after publication. And, of course, she's feeling the deadline stress! I'm sensing you may be in academia too?

That is a pretty interesting (and sadly necessary) thesis topic. I wish her well. I was once an academic, but am semi-retired from that path. It stopped being fun (among a myriad of reasons).

I was really contemplating seeing how long we could go entirely off topic before someone else reined us back in.

I'd be genuinely interested in hearing about your experiences in HE. If it's even a little bit like the ridiculous pressures faced in the UK I can certainly sympathise with you getting out. Perhaps I should drop you a pm before we both get told off?

I too am incredibly curious about the Mercs. Along with the Quints they seem like this line's wildcards. And with two such wildcards, I can't help but wonder if there's a relationship between these 'extra' factions; are the Mercs working for the Quints? Any comment from who must be on their way to becoming the most @'d member of the boards, namely @catz?

 

I might just pepper my origin story throughout this thread instead of PMing.

If it were me, the Quints and mercs would be wildly entwined, perhaps w/the mercs being hired by the Quints to stop the Ark on whatever mission it's on. We know so little about the story right now, but with all the map stuff, my guess is the new story will be the Ark is looking for something specific (Energon, Nucleon, a talisman, a way home after getting lost, The Ark of the Covenant*, a Guardian to battle against Scorponok), and maybe the Quints are trying to deny their quest.


*Might be too on the nose, I suppose

 

Or if in your opinion, commander class sky lynx looks big enough next to titan class predaking.

But what I saw is a micromaster base with I assume to have bot mode because I saw hands and feet sticking out
