That was from a leaked in-hand photo that might show a last minute change to the deco, or may just be some custom work someone who got it off the assembly line early did.

    The reality of production.

I doubt the target audience (kids) cares about the color of his hands or eyes.

Cal's not talking about the initial CG renders (as they had yellow eyes), they're talking about the leaked in hand photos that allegedly showed the figure to have a deco change (that was apparently at least slightly credibly rumored beforehand) that included the hands and codpiece being painted blue, and the eyes light blue instead of yellow, that was after we had already been shown the hands would have to be gray plastic. There's a good possibility this might have been basically a custom job by some factory worker who'd pulled a sample of the figure off the production line, but there's still hope it could be real, given the difference between these same "final" Hasbro promo pics for Studio Series Leader DOTM Optimus and the final figure (namely, the final figure ending up having the silver paint on the ab piece that even the "final" promo images lacked).

Once again hindering our progress for the ideal figures that match the source material. Which in a nutshell it's... not show accurate enough.

Actually during TR, hasbro versions being G1 toy accurate was mostly the norm. Vintage G1 Scourge toy did have blue hands. The only problem with Scourge was Hasbro and Takara got the chest tampos mixed up. Takaras tampos turned out to be toy accurate and Hasbros tampos turned out to be cartoon accurate. Hasbros came out first so I guess Takara was kinda stuck with the toy accurate tampos on an otherwise cartoon accurate figure. Me personally, I wouldnt put Highbrows grey hands on a Scourge with no grey at all. The light color was baby blue.

I’m planning on displaying Siege and Earthrise figures together for a hopefully complete 83/84 G1 cast or as close as I can get.
They should all look pretty good together in robot mode. If this Prime ships out with grey hands I’ll just save my money and use my Siege Prime, I might even open the cell shaded version.

I was willing to pay the Leader tax on Shockwave but I have already spent $60 on voyager Sized Primes and don’t feel like spending more for a wrongly colored Voyager scale figure with an accessory I’m not even going to display with it. Later on I’ll probably buy the recolor/remold or Prime if they do a second run later in colors closer to the G1 scheme.

The problem for me is that it’s so Close to G1 that the miscolored parts really do kick in my OCD, if it was less G1 I would not have had any complaints.
Power of the Primes had silver grey fists but it being a Orion Pax figure becoming the chest of a giant Optimus is different enough to not trip my uncanny valley.

Maybe the Prime in part three will be better?
Maybe if I see it in person it won’t be as bad as in pictures but as for right now I prefer the Siege version.

I'll wait for the G2 Black trailer edition with retro box exclusive to BBTS/EntertainmentEarth/Amazon/someone else.

And it'll have the blue eyes & fists, while the mass retail version won't.

Agreed. I suspect why - so they sell a version that's even "more screen accurate" at a later date - and a higher price probably too.

I\'m quickly getting sick of voyager toys with trailers as the new standard for Leader Class. I didn\'t care with Ultra Magnus it Galaxy Optimus given that their trailers converted to armor to bulk the figure up to Leader size. But Earth Rise Optimus and Sirge Astrotrain are just shameful. Get it together Hasbro!

The Transformers line started (in N. America at least) in August 1984, didn't it?

Or by '83' you're referring to pre-TF lines? Diaclone/Microchange/TraSformers/Dorvak/Macross-Robotech/ etc?

Agree with your outrage. This is a huge blow to collectors. l’ve emailed Hasbro customer service a few times already and I hope others will to.

Vintage toy Blurr and Scourge has substantially more color than TR Blurr and Scourge. The toy color homages in TR were not accurate.

Also, like I say, I swapped the legs out as well.

. I was on the same boat. In this case, this is not blatant on Hasbros part. We did see the renders originally intended the hands to be blue, but given that they are now articulated, they have to be cast as new pieces. I dont know how sprueconomy works but if hasbro did not have a choice then so be it. (Doubt they will paint the gray hands, people will complain of paint rubbing) I do know that Gundam kits can make smaller sprues to accomodate a different color, but thats Bandai. I guess we can just paint the hands. I do hope the bicep is red and not gray.

I think that is how it’s been since 1984 my friend, as G1 Optimus price retailed for $21, when you account for inflation he would be $51 in today’s market.

I think that was an earlier version of the mold
