I can see the comparison though. Yes, less articulation. But they are non-transforming and their designs look closer and more accurate to the original animation.

Oh, the comparison is obvious. It's the closest thing we've gotten to AMs since AMs.

But I've been pushing back against the common fan idea that all "Transformers that don't Transform" are considered Action Masters for a long time now. I really do see Action Masters as a pretty specific thing with a specific play pattern attached to them. The first third-party or 3D printer guru who manages to put together an Action Master Ratchet (in the Marvel color scheme! That's essential) will have not only my money, but will have fulfilled a decades-long dream of mine. But the challenge is, it really does have to fit my definition of what an Action Master is.

OK you can push back, but I still think its a valid comparison. I'm sure fans don't literally think they are action masters. But there is a valid comparison here that when they say action masters with them, they simply mean non-transforming, designs that hue closer to the cartoons, etc.

I've already conceded "valid comparison," but using the term "Action Masters" to "simply mean non-transforming designs that hue closer to the cartoons" is exactly the kind of thing I'm complaining about. It neglects the play pattern and inter-compatibility that made the Action Masters what they were: in some ways, Action Masters introduced the kind of line-wide play pattern that modern TF designers are pushing in current lines.

I think your clarification is totally justified... however, I think Action Masters continued the use of line-wide gimmicks, introduced by the head/target/power/micro masters + pretenders. They had swappable parts (& in the case of the micromasters, swappable vehicles) too!
(Don't mind me, just popping in to argue semantics...)

Also, I think these sculpts look fantastic. They're a bit redundant for my collection/tastes, I'm already collecting MP scale figures.
I can see how these will appeal to the broader nostalgia market.

I'm hardly offended by this kind of semantic exchange, and perhaps I wasn't clear about what I meant...

I'm not really talking about a line-wide gimmick, but rather about intercompatibility. Things you would take off of one toy and use when playing with any other toy in the line. Like Siege's current COMBAT system.

While intercompatibility was certainly true about some of the sub-lines you mention, I don't think it was highlighted for most the way that it was with Action Masters.

The main exception in my mind would be the Headmasters - Yes, absolutely, the interchangeable heads were featured prominently (in Japan if not the US). That said, I don't see the Headmasters as quite fitting into the point of the TF line where the entire line was that feature, as was the case with Action Masters (there were Micromasters that same year, but I interpret this as two lines existing simultaneously, much as, say, Seige co-exists with Cyberverse). Headmasters, by contrast, was simply a sub-line within the single TF line of that era.

FWIW, I consider this to have changed about two years later, when all TFs were either Pretenders or Micromasters (and each had distinctively different packaging from the other). Since I don't really see the Pretenders as having intentionally interchangeable parts (at least, I don't think this was ever marketed, even if/when it might be true), that leaves us with the Micromasters, for which I absolutely concede that the Micromaster Combiners were similarly interchangeable across the line. Of course, this was the same year that the Action Masters were out....

I saw these in person at DesignerCon, they looked pretty cool and well done. Way better than older Reaction stuff. I didn't pick them up as I got already blew some money but they look good if you're on the fence.

Step back even compared to the original Action Masters and those were already step back (in terms of articulation) to the Joes of the era. Far too expensive for something that has any value only kept carded for display.

Gotta be honest, though. I've always considered ReAction stuff pointless.

I hate to be like this....but I can’t commit to these in any way until I see confirmation of a second wave.

I'm mostly in for the novelty of them.
BBTS has wave 2 for February and wave 3 for May. The XL Devastator in May as well.

    Packaging is very nice.

I saw 4 of the 6 in person at Newbury Comics last Sunday.

I have my set of 6 arriving from S7 tomorrow.

This is one group of figures that I think I will retain the card backs.

Your mind may be changed if you had a Pulp Fiction Gimp ReAction figure.

I do like these, but can find NO way to justify the price(s).

I honestly hope it does well, but also hope Funko/Super 7 drops the greed in the future.
