New characters are always a good thing, so calm down spazz. Plus they allowed spare limbs for combiner building..... you know the line wide gimmick?

Didn't Warden say that the hands had to be gray because some other parts were gray? I don't get that, but whatever...if this version doesn't have the cartoon colors, another one will...eventually.

Dont worry, i bought all of those aforementioned figures. I embraced them despite the mold fatigue. But you are responding out of context here and calling me out for no reason.

I mean, if you don't have a point you could just not post.

Yup. They wanted the hands to be blue but once the final molds were set they were on the same set as parts on the bot/trailer that were grey. So they went with ensuring the trailer was grey with no random blue on the pack. I'm assuming because the blue on a grey trailer would stand out way more than the grey on the fully colored robot.

Looks like the Ark's engines poking out behind Prime.

I instantly think that the hands come down to sprue compliance. All the real estate for the sprue with the blue plastic was full so the hands had to be on the one where all the gray plastic would go. This can be seen on just about all other toys, like how POTP Abominus' head is molded in pink and had to be painted entirely white.

I think I'll just paint the hands blue tbh

Holy crap y'all, they're hands. Hands. On a plastic toy robot. Plastic robot hands. And y'all are having a meltdown like this is the end of the franchise as we know it.

Get over yourselves, pick up another hobby to get mad about, or just wait like 4 months for the Target exclusive cartoon deco or whatever. It's not that serious.

    Hasbro’s G1 isn’t Takara’s G1.

Lacquer on ABS? I thought it was acrylic or bust. Hm.
The shield is an extra piece that can be removed from the trailer. Optional. His arms are kibble free aside from the 5mm ports.

Tamiya spray lacquer is a synthetic, not organic, lacquer. Technically might be an acrylic lacquer. It's pretty unique stuff that way---and it is by far the best stuff I've tried, for adhering to HasTak plastic. It will even ALMOST adhere to unpaintable plastics. Tamiya spray cans are completely different than their bottled paint. (unless you're in Japan, and can get the bottled lacquer stuff)

That was what Warden reference. The fists were on the same mold as the other grey parts and that was the end of their hopes for blue hands.

Or Elita-1 having pink combiner feet that were painted black when there's really no reason they needed to be black (and were shown as pink in early product photos), or Apeface having a blue translucent shield painted the same color as the wings.

How could there be mold fatigue when those figures were the first to use those respective molds?

Sorry, just being a pot stirrer.

Now I’m curious if Optimus’s hands are unpaintable. We have some idea of where else they’re used in the mold and all (including the hands) probably require extra-special structural qualities.

Yes. We saw a painted prototype. But materials can differ and “unpaintable” plastic will take paint; it just won’t keep it.

I said the "deco" was iconic which includes the hands. This isnt the first time we got a generations figure that was off from a cartoon standpoint. We got a Hoist with a green head. We got a grapple with a black head. And we got a leader class POTP Prime with grey hands that got the same amount of hate. Whats the point of making something that looks like the cartoon by shape, but not color ? How long must we wait to get a perfect Prime in CHUG scale ? Its always something. Either they get the deco wrong, or he combines, or he is the wrong size class, or the alt mode sucks. Its always something off with their flagship character. But they nail Sixgun perfect on their first attempt.

It's not what I would have preferred, but I still don't regret pre-ordering it. I have never purchased after market "fixes" before now, but if someone makes the trailer and maybe the fists look better, I'll be happy to drop move some of my Hasbro budget towards them.

Easily the worst offenders in terms of “shape but not color” are Titans Return Blurr and Scourge.

With Scourge I bought Takara for my main one and a couple of extra Highbrows to swap with Scourges for the legs and hands as Sweeps.
I am VERY curious how recolors will work.

Nemesis will likely have gray hands. Hopefully they use a darker gray for the legs and trailer or the hands will stick out badly.

I don't think the gray is unpaintable plastic. I think Hasbro didn't paint it because it is a hinged hand with a rub point where the fingers open and close.
