I begged for Apeface so I’m gonna get him despite my feelings Hasbro fubared the damage and unpainted milky white plastic. I’ll get another next year if discounted. Going to see if there is an effective way to paint him in more appealing tones and remove the damage specs. I guess the SDCC was a prototype in darker plastic and beautifully painted...oh what could’ve been.

I'm going to have to dig out my TR Apface to play Mini-Me with my Siege Apeface (like I did with Repugnus), aren't I? Well, two Headmasters are better than one.

That's exactly the type of thing I was worried about. There's too much danger with that wing being translucent plastic.

Man that sucks. Sorry that happened to you.

At least I now know to be careful. Might drill out that hole a little bigger to avoid this on mine,

OK so after seeing others where better results with the ape mode neck I had another look at it. The main thing I was missing was clipping tab on the armature over the hinge. The torso still feels like a cycle of tabbing something while knocking out the last tab but that isn't a big deal. Pretty sure I have things lined up now, let me know if I'm missing something.

I've had success with this in the past: wrap a piece of 1000 grit sandpaper around the peg, then spin it a few times. It will wear off a very tiny amount of the peg and allow it to fit securely but not too tight.

All I have to say about Apeface for now is that the instructions are a candidate for the absolute worst in Transformers history.

I was hyped for this dude but they just had to use that milky plastic! Id love to paint those parts white or gray but he has some parts that actually need to peg here and there. There is also a huge issue with the amount of moving parts that will ruin the paint work. Probably best to just take it as it is ☹️

Make sure his robot mode knee joints are clicked all the way up into the ape mode shoulders. It takes a really good shove to get it, at least on mine. I had the same problem you do of constant untabbing before I figured that out. Now it goes together like a dream.

This is exactly where I'm at with this figure. I'd love to pick it up but that white plastic is just abysmal. Same situation with Earthrise Wheeljack. Oh well.

I've been trying to find a way to fit the neck tab over the hinge in beast mode with no luck. I was assuming it was a design error. Can you explain how it fits without breaking? Is there a specific method?

I had aged out of TFs by the time the Horrorcons came out, so I'm discovering the wonders of late-80s characters and their coloration. Apeface here is a nostalgia bomb for me in a really unexpected way. The milky white/purple/black/magenta color combo really evokes the time for me. The battle damage on his legs makes him look like he's wearing acid washed black jeans, which is the best use of the concept in the whole line.

Makes sense, thanks. It's felt like the knee on his right wasn't quite in the pocket a few times. I think I actually got it once and then realized the neck armature was still flipped up.

Getting my copy to clip felt scary too. Going back to robot mode is odd too because you have to figure out where to get solid leverage to unclip it. That and getting the Titan master out of the ape head become two odd steps in a row.

    Mine arrives tomorrow. Excited.

Aesthetically speaking, I'd have preferred a nice white coat of paint.

However, as stated many times, this is very faithful to the g1 color palette. I owned the g1 up to about a year ago. This essentially is the g1 figure with articulation, which isn't bad in my book.

Was just about to come and say this. All modes are rock solid for me and he's become my line favorite

Got mine this morning. Love the transformation to all modes, easy yet interesting. All modes seem to tab/lock pretty securely on mine. Jet wings could be a little longer, like they could have an extra couple inches that fold out but it probably wasn’t in the budget.

The white quasi-translucent plastic...I don’t HATE it but I hate that it doesn’t glow in the dark because it looks exactly like glow in the dark plastic. Not that Apeface is supposed to glow, but when you’re a purple and black robot ape jet with acid washed jeans (thanks for that @DrJest !)you may as well glow in the dark, too.

Overall, very happy with him and give him six out of seven bananas.

Upright ape wearing an acid washed black denim vest mode is my favorite mode.

    OUCH!!!!

i widened the hole the weapon pegs into on mine. I widened it a little to much though. so i put a small coat of glue inside the hole to build the hole back up. worked out fine for me.

Sorry to see Aepface’s wing peg breaking for people. The peg felt too tight on mine when I went to insert it so before I plugged it in I sanded it down until it fit normally. Highly recommend everyone do the same (or widen the hole) before insertion.
