First impressions:

Alt modes seem better in hand. Better than the TR iteration for sure.

He does have ankle tilt.

feels like a proper Astrotrain but I haven't had him beside other figures besides Apeface.

 

Bot mode is great.

Shuttle mode is seriously lacking parts.
Train mode is not that bad.

You get the backpack/launch base...that's cool.

I have a feeling with eerthrise hitting this will be an Ollie's shelfwarmer.

It's a pity Apeface wasn't released as a leader. He might have been bigger then. Although they'd probably just have added some extra crap like with the other leaders.

 

Does the back of the shuttle have to be so crappy because of the transformation, or could there be permanent covers added?

 

You wouldn't happen to have a Generations Blitzwing you could put Siege Astrotrain next to would you?

 

The more I view the shuttle mode, which is the mode most people have an issue with....the more I realize that it's not that it's bad per say, but more so a blending of two different aesthetics.

The front half is smooth and greebly-less, and the back half is jagged and full of nooks and crannies.

Had they just kept one "look" all the way through, there'd probably be less vocal backlash.

 

Yeah, I'm fine with the shuttle mode. Really the only thing that bugs me is the entirely unnecessary pair of wheels at the very front of his train mode. They look silly being so much narrower, don't add to the mode's stability, and would look much better replaced with a cowcatcher or just nothing.

 

His regular height didn't bother me when I added him to the display but then I remembered there where shoes connected to the extra piece.

 

So it follows the siege trend of the leader class being a voyager class that comes with an add-on kit?

 

There’s a lot to like here, but not enough to convince me to upgrade from the TR version. I like that they went with the steam engine and there’s loads of great details and weapon options. But to me, the shuttle looks unfinished, the train has wheels all over the place, and the whole package feels too small. With his specific alt modes, Astrotrain really should be the biggest triple changer.

So even with the platform shoes, he's still a tad shorter than the Generations/Thrilling 30 Blitzwing (I between both Blitzwings were the same height)

 

Not worth $50.

It saddens me that the new Leaders are even smaller than Prime Wars Voyagers. If you take off those platform shoes, Astrotrain is a full head shorter than Blitzwing. If you want to say he is a bit more complicated, maybe. TR Blitzwing/Megatron have a very high part count and a lot of hinges. Shockwave is practically a deluxe figure.

I actually prefer the TR Astrotrain bot mode. This one is just too greebly.

 

I think this new one is downright fantastic. Aside from the train mode, though, the TR version is better in my view.

 

This one isn’t perfect, but it’s light years better than the TR one IMHO. I didn’t like any of the modes on that one. Massively disappointing for me.

 

DD is in love and so am I. Awesome train mode! Wish TR Atrain had come with the steam engine.

 

I think this looks fun but the MSRP still stings. I plan on getting this leaving my Henkei and LG Astrotrains as his Astroforce.

The neat thing about this one is the weapons locker and BFG. Deco and sculpts to me are good for the most part, just wished the damned thing was bigger and had dedicated passenger seating for Micromasters or Battlemasters.

Hoping the launchpad can remain attached to the shuttle somehow as armor plating or something. Also wish the head had a retractable visor to homage the G1 toy. Maybe the visor head will be saved for a Selects release in G1 toy deco.

 

Shit, he’s barely as big as the Siege Voyagers even with his extra stuff.
