Similar vein of the alternate alt. modes of classic characters you like. Let's talk character deco's that weren't their original colour scheme that you still rather like.

Megatron - I've always liked the Shadow Blade/Command Black and Purple Megatron deco's. Also the G2 Archforce Megatron deco too.

Ratchet - The Green and White used in DOTM. I wouldn't mind seeing that be a recurring deco for Ratchet.

Bumblebee always looked pretty sharp in the inversed deco he had used in Beast Hunters.

Arcee - Prime deco looked really nice, i wouldn't mind a G1 styled Arcee in that deco.

Hot Shot - always prefered the Cybertron colours over Armada and Energon.

Sideswipe - G2 deco FTW.

 

I always liked TFA Hot Shots color scheme the best.

 

I liked most of these. Ratchet and Bumblebee don't do it for me, but the others all looked good, Megatron especially. To add to this list, I'd add the following

Animated Elita-1's Blackarachnia-inspired color scheme.
Optimus's alternate color scheme in Armada's final episode, the one where the torso and arms are black with red bits, making him resemble Optimus Primal.

I have to admit, even though I didn't care for those instances at first, I've actually become rather fond of the Supercharged Car Brothers in RID '01, the Powerlinxed 'Bots and 'Cons in Armada, even those Dark Energon exclusives from the Prime toyline.

I'm always down for a blue Arcee.

 

Arcee looks freaking slick here.

 

Optimus with black in place of the traditional blue looks really cool.

I love that deco.

 

You and me both - it preserves the standard Optimus blue head, legs, and hands and manages to keep bits of red in the arms and torso (especially on the back), but it puts a twist on it by making the red a secondary color, like what Optimus Primal's season one body had. It just works.

 

Optimus with yellow eyes is always good with me.

I always loved the black deco on Optimus in armada and the galactic man shockwave also imo I always loved the colors on prime soundwave and armada starscream

 

I suppose I've been on this a ton of times, but I prefer Ratchet's Marvel head colors, as opposed to the cartoon's white and black head. The picture of ratchet I currently use as my avatar picture just has the perfect amount of red/white in my opinion.


Aside from that, I have really taken a liking to the Classics Pretender and also G2 version of Starscream's head, both of which have him sporting the gray helmet and wearing a... erm... black... face.

It's not how it sounds, I assure you!

I always preferred Side Burn's powerlinx color scheme over the original. Was kinda of disappointed that I could never actually find the Powerlinx version. I also gave away the original version of the mold intending to replace it with the Powerlinx version which was a mistake. Should of waited till I had the replacement before getting rid of the original.

That being said I kinda got the impression that you were talking over all not just straight up repaints. Well... Arcee's Prime colors. And this isn't just because the character is portrayed better... I kinda like seeing her as something other than pink. It's just so much of a stereotype that pink is the girl's color and G1 Arcee was so much of a stereotypical girl character that being pink in color wasn't helping that image. I think it works better on Elita-One who's also a strong leader type like Optimus and also it's not quite as bright on here. Some parts almost look red.

Pink is OK some times... just not so great on a character who's only distinguishing quality is her gender. If there was more to her character than just being a girl it wouldn't bother me so much that pink was part of her color scheme. Making her blue and black kind of helps tone down the amount of stereotypically female things Arcee has going on.

Not so much an alternate color scheme exactly. Technically it's still the normal Ultra Magnus color scheme. However since I'm talking about the BASE robot and not the armor it is kind of unusual to see that color scheme. Normally the base robot is just white with a few hints of light blue and he's just boring to look at. I prefer when the base robot mode has the same colors as the armored mode because that's far more interesting to look at. It rarely happens but it has happened a few times like the FoC mold which doesn't even have a trailer or armor has a very nice paint job for an Optimus Prime repaint into Ultra Magnus that would normally have been all white.

I quite like the Energon color scheme of Unicron. I never bought it because it's a really expensive repaint and I like that Armada can essentially double as G1 Unicron but still I was really considering the Energon repaint for a long time cause I like that color scheme.

G2 Megatron I think is a lot better than G1... not only is he a TANK instead of a gun but the camo color scheme is more fitting of a villain and military leader than his G1 colors which I also felt was kinda boring looking. I think Animated also made some subtle changes that improved on the original color scheme by adding more red into it so it's not so boring to look at. I think my absolute favorite though is the Dragon from Beast Wars.

I also actually really like the NYC Taxi version of Prime Bumblebee. It's something new and different while still working with his original colors and I think he's the only Taxi transformer we have... which is odd considering how common they are... Though not all taxi's are yellow and black. The taxi cabs were I live kinda just look like normal cars except for the name of the taxi company and their contact information being painted onto the sides of the vehicle and the sign on top. They don't even really have a uniformed color scheme, every Taxi cab is a different color. This is because the Taxi drivers actually use their own personal cars... kinda like Uber but without the cell phone app and the drivers actually get a background check so they're less likely to be psychos.

 

Animated Shadow Blade Megatron is such a great color scheme for an Emperor of Destruction, a Slag-maker, an Autobot horror story. I'm also incredibly fond of the Marvel comic scheme as well, with black helmet and yellow eyes. (It seems quite shameful that SIEGE Megatron didn't get that deco, perhaps Earthrise will give us one at long last?)

Marvel Comics/Toy Galvatron's color scheme has grown on me over the years; another redeco I figured we'd get in Titans Return/Legends.

I have a weird fondness of the G2 Jazz color scheme.

I do like the "Star Convoy" color scheme of black, red, and gold on Optimii who get it.

 

Agreed with the blue Arcee.

But also:

- Loved the steel/iron colour on G2 Ironhide (not fond of the pink though)
- Armada Final Battle Optimus is my favourite deco for that mould and I'm sure it would also look very good on other Optimus figures
- And if not the FB deco, then the colours for the cabrobot for Diaclone Powered Convoy.

 

Are we only counting alternate colors of specific characters or do alternate colors made into new characters count?

Another good alternate scheme, albeit a minor one, is RID Galvatron's scheme - it swaps out the standard Megatron silver or grey for white, and it really pops.
