I’m late, but wanted to know others opinion about Skids dying and coming back if MTMTE was still going on. Would you like it if Skids came back? Not me. I love the guy, but despise death cheats. If he is going to back, then let him be a ghost.

 

Doesn’t matter because that fanfic is as dead as Skids was.

 

MTMTE is a fanfic? It did felt like one. It was a good comic book was.

 

If mtmte was still going on. I still don’t want Skids to come back.

 

He died an honourable death, and completed his character arc. Why would he need any reason to come back from the dead?

 

I honestly thought it was kind of a cheap death. After everything that had happened, he basically dies of sadness? I never felt great about that one. If anything I would have been okay with some kind of mental shutdown - he goes comatose, he loses all of the knowledge he'd picked up as an outlier, thus no longer being the Skids we've come to know and love - but dying just because a repressed memory was unlocked seems pretty cheap to me.

That said, since he was dead, it would have been even cheaper to bring him back.

 

He died of being sad. Sad because of the perceived guilt over something that he wasn't really guilty of. Only a book that emo could have something like that. It was a very dumb death. But still, he should stay dead because this book also had too many fake outs.

 

When you say over something he wasn’t guiltly of, do you mean it wasn’t his fault or he was faking it.

 

Depends on your take but he wasn't faking it. He was tricked into making a machine that Tarn- a former close friend and ex-ally- used to murder a whole room full of prisoners. He built a gun but didn't pull the trigger.

And no, he should not be brought back. Death should mean death. If it happens, it stays.

 

Transformers come back from the dead constantly. Bring him back. In fact, bring him back but strip him of all soul and emotion. Make him one bad motherfucker. Make him a cop.

A robot cop, if you will. I'm sure something like that's been done.

aside from that I'm fine with Skids death, i'm more upset about how they handled Nautica's grief.

 

He's a 3P MP style figure from X-Transbots. Goes by the name Taiho.

 

I thought Skids died from spark failure and not from sadness like some people said.

 

People are being facetious. Sparks are effectively magical soul energy balls. Spark failure = "broken heart" = sadness.

 

Actually this would of been clever. Have the mental breakdown, go comatose, and wake up later with zero memory. Just as we met him. Maybe implying somewhat that this has happened before.

 

I thought a way to “bring Skids back” without bringing him back would be that when Skids went through the portal in MTMTE issue #20 or so, he would have actually gone through time in the Warren to where the crew was about to face off with “Primus”. He discovers that in the future, he’s dead. Fights alongside the crew, redevelops a relationship with Nautica all over again, and then runs back through the Warren to arrive 5 panels later in MTMTE #20 to live out the rest of his life as it happened.

 

Skids didn't need to come back to life, but there did need to be some kind of catharsis and closure surrounding his death.

When the covers first came out for the Lost Light arc on Troja Major, I felt sure that Nautica was going to end up talking with Skids' ghost, they'd both work through some stuff, and both the characters and the readers would come away with a sense of closure.

But nope, Nautica deletes all her attachment to Skids instead of actually working out any feelings, so it's left even more unsatisfying and loose-end-y! At the time I was like "oh, well this must be gonna come up again later", but that just ended up being "it means Nautica is immune to a lotus eater machine one time" and nothing else.

In retrospect, Skids' lame, depressing death really marks a turning point in the book for me - when it started to go from being the comic that always made me smile (even if it was a sad smile!) to the comic that was always kinda gloomy and depressing.

 

This makes my irrationally angry. And the whole purpose of being immune to the LEM was pointless anyway since Ratchet was the one who figured it out anyway.

 

Honestly, killing off Skids was BS; they could have done much more with the character in MTME, but instead chose to chump-kill him in a meaningless demise.

I can see now why they had to do a reboot: tat the rate they were killing characters, the whole cast wouldn't have survived another story arc. Just look at poor Rung...

 

Also, in response to OP, if mtmte had continued, it would've been like the ending to VLD where most people would've left leaving only die hard fans and shippers arguing.
