So, are the DNA upgrade kits for Jetfire and MPM Ironhide worth the price of admission?

I’m a Tamiya Acrylic person myself, but regardless painting is indeed just that easy. Dip it in, wipe off any excess paint into the pot, apply and leave to dry ;)

I always have at least one thin brush for small details and a thicker one for dry brushing. Otherwise the only secret is to clean your brushes properly when you’re done to keep them healthy.

Has anyone figured out an easy mod for Hightower to give him his cables?

It seems like the attachment of them is the difficult part.

Irohide's kit is great and fixes the few issues most people had with him while also adding guns and knives to the mix which could potentially you save money on buying the possible DotM version of Ironhide.
The Jetfire one... if you have two Jetfire figures then I think it's worth it, otherwise it's too involved of an installation for just a few of the added bits to power up Prime and articulated hands for Jetfire.
    That's my opinion on both.

Is the installation hard the first time, or do you mean that converting from Jetfire as a robot/jet to jet armor is a real pain? I wouldn't mind it if it's a hard first-time installation and parts swap, but I wouldn't really want to make transforming him permanently unfun.

Yeah no disrespect to hasbro I love all the MPMs, but UT did a crazy good job with lockdown. To make a car turn into such a humanoid design is insane. But yeah it could improve on some articulation. I’m still more than pleased.

So these would work without having to prime the surface or add anything to the paint?

It is as easy as dipping the (tip of the) brush, (never use to much paint) and aplying. Just clean the figure properly (degrease) I rarely use primer.

no, I need the real figures to measure them to know for sure, they look promising trough.

they are exactly the ones I use ;-)

It's time consuming for the first time install, but there are quite a few things that need to be changed for the transformation. Admittedly, I haven't done it yet, nor do I plan to. I already had an extra Prime and Jetfire for display, so the kit was perfect since I have no intention transforming them.
@savio-prime and @PrimeVsPrime might be able to share more about the transformation after installing the DNA kit.

Just got Toyworld Green Hornet today and he is pretty impressive for his size. He also has a decent amount of articulation. 20191112_163256.jpg 20191112_163309.jpg 20191112_163324.jpg 20191112_163501.jpg

I agree with @Lukelbs about the kit for Prime and Jetfire. It is a bit of pain in the ass and time consuming to switch out the leg pieces, but once that's done, it's pretty much business as usual from there.

The only extra steps to put Jetfire back together after that, are just reattaching the chicken leg pieces back to his legs, removing the cones on the turbines, and popping the back wings off, which can all be done in ant 45 seconds.

However, I'm gonna start focusing my collection on the MPMs after Devastator, so I'd probably recommend the Ironhide add on kit, since the brace by itself vastly improves him. I don't even bother using the guns, knives or even panel pieces.

So I decided to start collecting Transformers figures...first time ever. Never even had them as a kid. I decided to go with the Studio Series after seeing the SS-38 Optimus reviews. He was just delivered to my house today so I'll be checking him out when I get off work. To hold me over until he showed up, I ended up purchasing some from Target. So far I have Sideswipe (29), Crankcase (30), Rampage (37) and Hightower (47). I don't plan on having any duplicate characters but I'm enjoying them and plan on pretty much getting whatever they put out.

Question....which version of Megatron does everyone recommend getting? Which version of Starscream? Those to me are two key characters and they have multiple releases. Just wanting some feedback, I have a lot to learn but I feel pretty confident in SS-38 being a nice centerpiece.

First thing's first, welcome to the forum!!

SS38 is definitely one of the best SS figures we've gotten!! I love how literally every part of him is utilized in his transformation, nothing's wasted!!

I don't have any Megs, but I would recommend SS13, as I think that he's the best interpretation of Megs we've gotten. Sure he's hollow, but he still aesthetically pleasing, and if you manage to get your hands on the DNA Design kit, that takes care of his hollowness.

As far as Screamer, I'd recommend SS06, just because I don't like the tatted up version.

I prefer the Movie 1 Starscream to the tattoed version because I like the grey scheme more than the tan the used for that one. I would say the ROTF Voyager is the best version of him, mainly because thats the image in my head when I think about Movieverse Megs, but you he has some flaws, mainly the open and hollow torso. I like the Leader DOTM version too, but it seems most people dont't like him. There is also a Movie 1 version coming in the near future.

There are also some exclusive repaints of those figures but I don't know how accesible those are right now.

If you allow me another suggestion, even though it goes against not buying multiples of the same character. Recently my gf bought me the TLK/BB movie 2 pack from Burlington. It was like $17 so you're basically getting one for free.

He definitely isn't in the "affordable" range (if you mean on the cheaper end) as he's about $70-$80 in most places.
