She didnt like seeing her husband hurt.

I did, though. So did countless others. It was nice seeing something more violent than PG bullshit "hardcore" matches, like HiaC, where nobody even bleeds. But, I dont suppose you understand people liking something other than your family-focused promotion whose greatest attempt at being edgy has been 50 fucking soap opera stories about men getting cucked.

Personally I look at the concept of an "Unsanctioned Match" as a story tool, like how "Hell in the Cell" was used as a story tool to end a feud; way back when WWE was good.

It's funny to me when I read the comments on the Mox/Omega match on YT as most folks think that's the craziest HARDCORE MATCH EVER.! I have a friend who's been a fan of the Japanese Death matches before they got mainstream by other promotions and some of the shit he has showed me is totally F#CKED UP almost like a snuff film. The Mox/Omega match was entertaining but wasn't like a crazy Japanese Deathmatch,CZW,XPW or even early days of ECW.

Yeah, I don't quite get the complaints either. I'm no deathmatch aficionado but relatively speaking, that match was tame. Nobody had to get cut out of barbwire. Nobody had to pull a Sabu and tape up a ridiculous gash mid-match. No thumbtacks. No fork. No cheese grater. They never even broke out the most heinous thing to get slammed onto: lego bricks.

Only reason I can think of for why people are so up in arms over the match is because while being not that insane, it was way more extreme than anything WWE has done in recent memory. People dun gone soft watching Vince's watered down PG sports entertainment.

One of the most brutal ones Ive seen was a dude getting hit with a running weed wacker. Sliced his back like crazy.

Or the old Japanese matches with explosives ringside.

Except no company would realistically promote or use their resources to show something they didnt sanction. It's a living plot hole thats glaring in the world of wrestling that has plot holes everywhere

personally I am not invested in things like w/l records or sanctioned/unsanctioned matches.

I know aew is using these things to try to establish difference, but in the end it's just a talking point for the commentators and it kinda goes in one ear and out the other.

Its kinda cool on the level that all the wrestlers in aew are actually concerned about their w/l record, which in turn makes their sole motivation being #1 contender if they are not a champ.
This is something wwe is missing as to why people are actually fighting. If you don't want to win a belt and be champion, why are you in a wrestling organization?

So even though it doesn't really mean anything to me, it does add a little to why the wrestlers are motivated/engaged in their matches and I appreciate that on some level.

If people are complaining that much about that Mox/Omega match, go check out his matches in CZW back in the day. Dude had a reciprocating saw used on him. This was "Extreme" , but far far FAR from what hes done in the past.

Taking big bumps on the uncovered ring was probably the worst thing in that match in terms of actual IRL damage. The barbed weapons are going to puncture and sting for a while, but I very much doubt that the bed was entirely legit and the glass was very obviously not as that would have shredded Mox's skin as he crawled over if it was real.

On the topic of sanctioning, I think it's more important that a wrestling product consistently applies the rules it sets for its own universe than it is for it to pretend that it is taking place in the real world where hardly any of it would actually make sense if you broke it down and followed it to the logical conclusion.

Regarding the unsanctioned match, wiki has this much to say about it: "In this variation, there are no rules (with the exception of the pinfall or submission) and the match is not officially recognized by the promotion. In kayfabe, the promotion is not held liable for what happens to the wrestlers during an unsanctioned match."

You've got a good point, and it's something that's struck me sideways since back in early Attitude era. In kayfabe, the company's washing their hands of any responsibility by going lights out. In reality, there's no way they can put something on TV or PPV and not be held liable. I think it's verbage and a scenario that worked for selling tickets to untelevised events way back when but doesn't really work for mass media distribution.

No DQ, No Holds Barred, Falls Count Anywhere, Last Man Standing all cover everything done in matches like this. If something's "truly" going to be billed as an unsanctioned street fight, it should be filmed on a cell phone and posted to worldstar. :D

Screw CZW and their garbage wrestling. It takes hokey and non realism to a whole ridiculous new level. No thanks

Not saying CZW is producing classics out there, but even what people deem “garbage wrestling” has its place in the industry. There are plenty folks out there that would rather watch people beat themselves over the head with light bulbs then watch Styles vs Nakamura at Wrestlekingdom. Hell I enjoy the occasional death match from time to time. You gotta give those people credit for being crazy enough to allow themselves to do that kind of insane stuff. Is it technical magic. Nope. But damn is it fun. And that’s what I want. Intriguing characters. Interesting stories. And fun matches of all kinds.

Didnt read raw results before hand. Decent show so far. Glad they utilized imperium for the invasion while they were overseas.
Wwe puzzling logic- street profits being SO pro Raw when they had previously been NXT for so long and made several appearances while NXT tag champs

I can appreciate that thought. If AEW is smart they won’t have another match like that for a good long time and ONLY if it’s necessary. I think that’s one way to stop it from turning fans away that don’t like that type of match.
