And the waggle test on the extended limbs may have slightly different results with an entire large vehicle attached to them
Tbf there's a good chance it'll be solid. Their last figure this size had insanely strong joints so they have good form. It's Fanstoys I'd be concerned about, they have form for piss poor joints at this size.
The way the shoulders tab together, they would only un tab if you move the arm down, not forward or back. Notice he wasn't holding the pauldrons when he moved the arm down. It was just so the figure didn't fall over, something I do with all my combiners cause I ain't letting that thing fall.
Based on Breakdown, XTB's are almost identical to MP-14, and DX9 is noticably larger. FT's are the same length as XTB, but nearly as wide as DX9. I put some pictures in the comparison thread. What the pictures don't show is the weight. FT's is by far the heaviest.
After seeing the SotE review, I've decided to get the DX9 stunticons also. Already have the XTB set. The DX9's are a bit less MP for me, because they lack the finish with extra paint and detail, but they just look like so much fun
I know the XTB size, they're the only ones I have I realised I asked the wrong question, I should have asked about weight... but you answered the unasked question anyway So it's FT's Menasor that may fail the leg waggle test, yes?
I think this is going to be the best looking menasor. Too bad I’m in on the other 2 competitors. Also can’t get over that super long trailer and over sized cars.
Yeah, the trailer sucks a bit, but I don't care enough. Gonna be in Menasor mode the whole time anyway probably.
That's my concern, yeah. But I think my plan evolved from "I'm going to get XTB's, because I think they're the right size," to "I'll get the toy version of Gravestone for a toy version of Menasor, I'll get the DX9 Stunticons for my 'toon Menasor, and I'll get Fans Toys for my individual Stunticons." Because right now I've bought all eight of the available Stunticons (or, at least one version of each from XTB). I'm just waiting for Henry to arrive. Plus I've got preorders on Capone and FT's Magnum. Oh, and if you need more accurate numbers, FT's Breakdown is 320g, XTB's is 194g, and DX9's is 210g (including their guns). Roughly 50% heavier than the competition.
Great set. I think DX9 keeps being the under dog but the QC area doesn't help them. They certainly did a bang up job with Gabriel but I still have my nitpicks with this set like the bug being his only main combiner gun. The fact the bug can double as a gun is great for sure but just seems odd to push toon and then abandon it on that one accessory. Then again, the trailer is HUUUUGE!! Neither is a deal breaker though. Saw that right away too with the legs. There seems to be a lot of confusion with that area for some reason. That's some serious commitment right there. Though I don't own the officials or Fansprojects, I'm onboard with the current 3P's x3 and maybe TransFormissions too. I feel like TW is out because they seem more focus on movie stuff and Constructor repaints. Zeta could be a contender and who knows if MMC is serious enough about doing them. I'm still waiting for those Autobot cassettes, while they play with Ravage repaints. I will say this though, it appears MMC is turning up production on those Combaticons, which I am getting too so we shall see.
Indeed. Slippers not needed. This +1. FTs Spoiler is a brick. Literally. He is very heavy with lots of die cast. Like an old Corgi model car. FT Menasor frame I have to believe will also be die cast or at least lots of die cast parts in order to carry this weight and still be able to pose it.
"I've just spent a fair bit of cash and got a great looking 'Motormaster'... now I think I'll bundle it up and shove it in a slot around the back where I'll never see it again!"
I think he is doing something wrong around 3:07 when he attached Montana. He is not tabbing in securely and the Montana peg + Atilla leg clip do not look to be working correctly together.
I get where you're coming from, but don't forget in bot mode, DX9 has 80% of a trailer not integrated and just sitting on the table. I can't rationalize it's fully all-in-one, no matter how clever the engineering it.
FT RoadKing does what you are asking... but at a cost to the combiner where extra parts will be needed... like pants. Transformisison PowerTrain is closest to this design from DX9. But much like OG G1 Optimus Prime, MP-10, MP-44, FH Power Baser, most any Super Ginrai clone, blah, blah, blah, et al... the 80% trailer portion is not needed for Capone bot mode. We can see that. It sits there... but for truck/trailer or combined mode it is seamlessly integrated. Pretty ingenious. Close enough for me. Again... perspectives. The sturdiness and stability of the combined mode is what gets my attention the most here. It is a complete one-pice solid frame... with the head, hands, feet, arms and legs permanently attached. Look ma... No PANTS! When some other company comes up with a better solution, I'll look at it. Until then... I'm really going to enjoy DX9s set.
