Just got my retail copy. White accessories, thank fuck!

I had Badcube’s version and after getting this in hand I’m like what was I thinking?

Looking forward to getting this guy..my stack order processed on tfsource.com so I'll see him after I add a few more figs to my stack. My bad cube version broke a couple months ago

That plus the frozen fingers, purply-grayish off-black color, and it's still the XTB mold. Handled the retail copy a few days ago and was less than impressed. Wouldn't mind having the white bits to replace the chrome parts on a v1, but I have the BadCube one anyway so wouldn't matter.

 

I’m not sure what to do...

TT will undoubtably be doing Trailbreaker, but it might be a lot like this release with the off-black and lack of chrome, given Takara’s new direction. I’m not going to buy a v1 Aegis at markup either.

 

So why do people prefer the white over chrome accessories?

 

They are fixated on trying to match an 80’s cartoon image that had limited ways to express different materials.

No, there are a few reasons. Like @Evolv3d said, some of it is toon accuracy. Some people don't like chrome because it wears off easily. Some think it looks cheap (and to be fair, when it's done badly and layered on too thick, it does look kinda cheap).

 

Any ideas on what the “very limited edition” might be? Received by my local seller but he doesn’t want to open it

 

That's the box I got, very limited edition. I've had a cursory glance but I think I have silver accessories. How annoying if it is. Will have a proper look again soon

So I do have silver weapon accessories. Maybe that's what the limited edition is? @TigerBlade you got white right? What did your box look like?

Ultimately I'll see what the accessories look like with the mix of white and silver but if they look poor I really see this as a penalty for people wanting to upgrade purely for toon. It's been a while since I transformed my V1 so even if I get white parts somehow I wonder if the shoulder weapons are easy to swap out? I'm feeling short changes at the moment as why'd I even bother to upgrade if I only get 1/2 the toon look benefits

Loving him. My only complaint is that his shoulders kind of angle inward towards his chest, which my Hoist does not do. Other than that, beautiful finish and solid hardware.

 

So did this end up any better than the original? I'm on the fence. I've not handled XTB's stuff before and they have quite a rep. The clear blue being so see through on the chest is the only thing throwing me for a loop.

I'd also like to see what these silver accessories looks like. Any pictures?

 

As far the rep thing... they have been doing pretty great things with their new stuff... not perfect, but pretty darned good. As for whether this is better than the original... it does have better tolerances and the shoulders are slightly improved. So yeah, I would say it's better.

 

I think he's great.

Transforming him through gritted teeth aside, I think he really looks the part.
All joints are tight. He also feels really solid and has proper heft to him.

I didn't own the original, but I'm well chuffed with this version.
So glad I waited.

 

I mean, at the very least they improved his hands- they were undersized and the fingers were prone to coming off and getting lost. Honestly, that's what really soured me on the V1 version when I got him, I lost one of his fingers within the first few hours. Like I replaced the hands with the KFC seeker ones like people suggested, but between that and the crooked tampos and the crappy shoulder articulation, he ended up being on my list of purchases I regret.

But it sounds like the new version addresses the things I just mentioned. I mean, I am 99% sure people said the shoulders are better, but I don't know if they fixed the tampos, but I assume they would. But yeah, he definitely has better hands from the pictures. Like, definitely DO NOT get the v1. The not clear blue windshield is not worth it compared to all the other negatives of the V1. The V1 isn't totally awful, definitely not the worst of the 3P Trailbreaker choices out there, but from all I've seen the V2 is a noticeable improvement.
