He survived the fight.

Because he scored less hits
He had less attempted hits
He died and did not survive the fight.

 

Prime got dead, Megatron got a sweet upgrade. Megs won big! He not only survived and thrived, he finally killed his arch enemy and a shit ton of his soldiers. Way more Autobots died in that battle than Deceptions. It was Megatrons masterstroke his "Symphony of Destruction".

cartoon: the Great War was already 9 million years old by the time they wake up in 1984......and by Rebirth it didn’t look like it was over yet.And there’s a good chance shrapnel survived the 86 film

Optimus lost the fight, but won the battle. Also Optimus was about to pull the trigger on Megatron before Hotrod jumped in the way.

 

See, to me, that says Op won the fight. He beat Megatron down and had Megatron at gunpoint after the scrap and would've likely gunned him down once Megatron drew on him with the pistol.

I just find it odd that the stuff with Hot Rod counts for some as being a part of the fight. But then if we're counting the aftermath, Op KO'd Megatron after taking four straight kill shots. If this were a Samurai epic, Op wins since the advancing opponent got sent home.

 

Megatron lost to a non-juiced up Hot Rod despite having a Unicron-level power up.  . He also can't shoot for shit. He missed Op twice, Hot Rod once at the base, and a ton of times inside Unicron. Seems the only way he can get a good hit in is if they stand absolutely still for him (the hostage situation) or unable to move and preferably point blank (Ironhide).

 

That sounds like a possible explanation got his gun mode...

I interpret the great war to mean the third cybertronian war, which in cybertronian history is characterized as being faught in other words....in particular....earth.
And as for that old topic....i believe the insecticons did survive the great war in transformers the movie.
