I could've dealt with everything except the headsculpt. Just looks too spaced between the eyes. The head's just a bit too wide.

Being close enough but not quite what I want to see makes me reject it all the more...

Really? SS and OP are to scale?
    SSPrimeComp3.gif
There's no amount of wide-shouldered gorilla-proportioning that's going to make SS's bot mode scale properly. If they wanted scale, they could have picked an F-16 with half the mass to help, or an F-5, the smallest fighter jet the US has (and half the size of an F-16).

Yeah, that's how SS38 should have been from day 1.
Considering the limitations that it wasnt a MP figure so the engineering wasnt that complicated, to get that close to screen accurate is good enough for me.

As opposed to which other Transformers series that did it better? Starscream was downsized for the forest battle but he was huge in most other shots he was in, just as he should be.

G1, where animation was constantly wrong and scale would change in every shot?
Beast Wars, where a rat was almost as big as a Cheetah?
TFPrime, where a motorcycle transformed to be like 15ft tall?
Bumblebee movie, where a VW Beetle was up to Optimus Prime's tits almost?

I'm not saying the others did it better, I'm saying Bayverse isn't nearly as good/accurate as it's often held up to be, scale-wise. And Starscream is probably the main reason for that, followed by Blackout. They should be absolutely ginormous compared to the others, not just "bigger".

And the post you quoted didn't say it's perfect or incredibly amazing, just that out of all the series it took scale into consideration most often.

Starscream should be a Harrier Jumpjet, like Shatter, making him more believable; his Prime incarnation had a passing resemblence to a Harrier.

The wings take up a huge amount of what you're looking at here. Those are relatively flat and empty and can fold up thin as paper. So the main fuselage is the biggest area of mass here, and if you look at the jet from the side, the fuselage is also pretty darn slim itself. Starscream's mass is very spread out over the jet mode. Here's the f22 with all the wings covered, to show what we're essentially dealing with.

    Snapchat-294958091~01.jpg Snapchat-1978663366~01.jpg

Now that's still quite a large vehicle, but it's much easier to visualize how this jet compacts to a robot that's a little over Optimus' height but twice as wide.

Looking at it from a weight perspective, the f22 weighs about twice as much as Optimus' Peterbilt, the f16 weighs about the same, and the f5 weighs about half what the truck does. F5 is way too small, measuring by weight. The f16 would make a Starscream about the same size as Optimus. But considering their design choice of having him a little taller and much wider than Optimus, the f22 is the best fit out of the three jet choices.

"It may be the only series that respects scale and really considers the size of the alt mode the majority of the time"

Your post also doesn't negate my point that the reason why Starscream was so wide was to stop him from being incredibly tall. Whether his height was right or not, that point still stands. Plus, that was likely the reason for his digigrade legs to again shorten him.

Some people honestly just see height and completely discount width or overall mass. Hence all the comments about how tiny some figures are or how small XYZ character is in relation to their alt mode when in fact they scale just fine.

If I recall Starscream is at least Partly an F-22 as when Bay secured filming at Edwards Airforce Base / white sands they let him play with them to an extent no one else had had at the time so - he thought it best to use what was around. I don't think they very seriously thought about making him an F-15 though - perhaps simply because there wasn't any around at that base.

I'm kinda shocked they didn't use the A-10 for something since they used that kinda prominantly. Starscream is a bit wacky in his scale but they gave up pretty quickly on pretending there wasn't any mass-shifting so just put him down to that - besides most of the time he's with Megatron and his scale could be anything when he only infrequently has an Earth Mode.

You what we never did get though - an enhanced Galvatron toy. especially as it's still somewhat up in the air if Megatron as he appears in The Last Knight is simply reconstructed from the parts Barricade and other rescued from the Humans or if he's a combination of Galvatron as well. Or if Galvatron still exist as a seperate being somewhere. It's certainly well inside the bounds of Transformers Lore to have a couple of Megatron's (or derived characters) operational in the same time and space.

I'd not say no to a slightly improved Galvatron toy.

No reason to make Starscream an F-15 other than nostalgia.

The F-15 is plenty badass on its own, with its own legacy and continued use to this day. This was a fighter that could shoot a satellite out of orbit; it was so aerodynamic it could fly with one wing. Not a single one has ever been shot down in air-to-air combat. The US would've retired it by now if it didn't perform so phenomenally at its various roles, but they clearly know its worth given they continue to give it the latest upgrades. The Eagle has more than enough of a reputation to be worth being the Seekers' alt-mode. Personally I really want to see the Seekers turn into my favorite fighter, the F-16 Fighting Falcon, but it's certainly more than just nostalgia carrying their F-15 form.

Think about it from the character's perspective though. Would Starscream want to be an older fighter plane, or the sleeker, newer one? Also there had to have been more F-22s in service in America in 2007, no? Making it easier to blend in? Also, just my personal opinion but the F-22 is probably the coolest looking jet that I've ever seen. But I'm not a military guy or anything, I just know what I think looks cool and fits the character.
