In the course of trying to send my Mpp10 Optimus Prime to a few customizers, a series of unfortunate events occurred leaving a sour taste in my mouth and much to be desired as far as overall appearance. One customizer was a bit heavy handed with the paint apps and basically smeared the paint on. Then I sent Optimus off to another customizer who decided he would try his hand at removing all the heavy paint leaving the figure looking almost stripped and weathered. Poorly weathered I might add. I am now back to square one now. I am not really ready to give up on my figure and just sell it. I have really invested a lot of time and money on it and have bought an upgrade kit for it and am also speaking getting some accessories custom printed for it. So just selling it is out of the question
Do you have any idea what kind of paint the first customizer used? It looks like an enamel, but I cannot tell really from the pics. One thing I would recommend is that at the very least, one of these guys owes you a new MP-10.
That is just pathetic. Sorry for your misfortune. There are a few good customizers here on this forum that may be able to help you out. But it’s an uphill battle now. Poor OP needs a total makeover. ...if I’d have known that piss-poor paint-customizing skills were in demand, I would’ve whored myself out ages ago
Not easy to do, but at this point, the best option is to sand everything down smooth and then repaint from scratch. This would also involve pretty much taking apart the entire figure, pins and all. Not trying to sound like a smartass, but you're also at the point where you may have to cut your losses and just buy a new one (getting a lot more expensive for real vanilla MP10's, unfortunately).
Honestly, I would just leave him displayed in truck mode, that should be easier to repaint, maybe even in a simplified cartoon color scheme and buy a new figure, maybe one of the two third party ones that area out there since the MP-44 is ridiculously expensive. Sorry about that man
enamel. But this was the second attempt at customizing this. Basically the second customizer wiped off the bulk of the paint the first guy used. Leaving it distressed and weathered. That is what you are seeing now
Then at least the first customizer should be put on blast, if for no other reason than this doesn't happen to someone else.
Precisely the reason I have not jumped on the ball to buy a new one. The seller of this figure was from China.
Thanks. I appreciate the sympathy. I think someone might be willing and able to help me on here after seeing all this. But if you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. I hope that the plastic isn’t already weakened by whatever the second guy used to remove the first guy shit show of a paint job.
Rubbing with vegetable oil works on some stuff, or so I've heard. Never tried. I've also heard break fluid, also never tried.
Getting that back to pristine is a lost cause. Call it battle damaged prime and move on. He looks good as worn and weathered.
