What I, personally, would like is a sequel to TLK with no crude humor. Keep it kid friendly.
Decepticons are helping Quintessa awaken Unicron and the Autobots try to stop them.
Decepticons wake Unicron who then awakens Cyclonus and Scourge. They collect all kinds of dead Transformers, even dust like Ironhide, and Unicron is able to repair them. When he does, Scourge puts a device on each that transforms them into sweeps under his control.
Next plan is to initiate Unicron's transformation.
During final battle, an Autobot takes out Scourge, releasing the sweeps from his control. They transform back into their normal selves: Jazz, Ironhide, Ratchet, Leadfoot, Starscream, Constructicons, etc.
The Autobots are able to flush Unicron's consciousness into Cybertron and then send Cybertron back where it came from with the Decepticons on it. In a post credit scene, Megatron is furious about their defeat, but he then hears Unicron's voice and the Cybertron structure starts to transform...

They finished in 2011. AoE and TLK were non-canon alternate timelines.

I agree. Finishing the series with a bang and a good fan reception would be endearing. Might potentially be quite good with the right production team.

I could totally see it. Unicron, whose appearance is modeled after Aaron Archer, farting and belching, and eating a crapton of giant McDonald's® Cheeseburgers.

I’d love another movie, but I think that ship has sailed, unfortunately.

Still, The Last Knight does feel like a conclusion if you ignore the last-minute tag.

    "Don't wake Unicron"

Unicron never wakes up. All the Autobots got to go home.

Not to mention why does anybody think that a sequel to TLK would touch on ANYTHING a proper sequel should, like Unicron's inexplicable presence (because how the hell is he there after the Creators fired the laser at the planet) or who the ever living hell Quintessa is? TLK itself is proof that a film made to the same bayverse standard is not beholden to answering questions of a continuity nature. After all, how about those Creators Prime went off to fight? NOPE HE CAME RIGHT BACK TO BE EVIL FOR 5 MINUTES. How about GalvaNOPE HE'S MEGATRON AGAIN FOR NO EXPLICITLY STATED REASON. Or those "ancient primes" DinoboGRIMLOCK IS A DOG NOW APPARENTLY.

I get WANTING some kind of closure, but the reality is that even if a TF6 were to happen, the odds that it would just be as disjointed and non-sequitr in nature as TLK was to AOE make it far more likely to just make things even worse and NOT resolve the one or two plot threads people still think were any kind of promise to be followed up on.

I still never got a sequel to AOE. I'd rather they produced small a netflix series on characters we never quite got to see much. And a proper prologue on transformers mythos.

One thing that's weird about TLK is that it's essentially a complete story, aside from the Unicron teases (which were honestly barely teases, since they revealed it early in the movie). And Megatron surviving, I guess. If Unicron were just some random MacGuffin, I think less people would be expecting a follow up.

I was thinking about this the other day...

The Autobots go home, Cybertron is saved, TRF repents of their ways, Cade and Vivian get along (and most likely get together), the Decepticons all die (aside from Megatron), and Bumblebee's voice issue has closure. If TLK were supposed to be the first of many Cinematic Universe movies, you'd expect these (or at least some of them) to be things that continue forward, as ongoing plots and themes. How do you make a TF6 with the Autobots gone? I suppose you could bring them back, but what's the point of sending them away in the first place, if they're just going to reverse it?

Something like Cade being "on the run" could have lasted several movies, and his relationship with Vivian could have grown throughout those movies. His final arc could be learning to love again, and settling down to live a happy life. But this was all resolved in one movie, his character doesn't really have anywhere else to go...

What's the point in introducing TRF if they're gone after one movie? Was TF6 just going to introduce a new 'paramilitary force' who hunts Transformers? Why not leave them around, as reoccurring villains? Have them redeem themselves later down the road...

It's just a weird setup to a Cinematic Universe. Usually they want to leave a bunch of open-ended plots for future movies. Although based on the hints we've gotten, I suspect future "Cinematic Universe" stories would have been historical-based, not 'moving forward' in the timeline.

Oh, definitely - they had zero interest in actually advancing the story after TLK, if anything Unicron wouldn't even have been addressed in a proper sequel for at least another 5 years. The entire point of TLK was to introduce the bullshit of them doubling down on 'aliens did human history' crap so all they would have to do is shove robots into various points and let history itself basically write the plot. Thank goodness TLK bombed so we don't have to see such embarrassment because Paramount badly needed the shake-up and to leave bayformers in the dirt where it belongs.

No. They had 5 chances to make a coherent series worthy of the "closure" some keep asking for -they failed, with TLK being the most blatant clusterf*#@&€£, middle-finger waving, discombobulated no-continuity-whatsoever-having example and Paramount would be an imbecile to continue something that nearly put them in the poor house. . .bayverse doesn't deserve closure-unless it's the continued closure of the coffin (with 6 feet of dirt on top) it put itself in 2 years and some change ago. . .

The amazing thing is that even though TLK was a box office disaster of modern scope disaster (who the hell cares if it made over $600 million? That was a film designed to make twice as much), with a plot that everybody seems to agree was garbage...there's still people willingly ignore every single reason why a sequel is not happening and actually want more of something that they openly recognize is irredeemable slop! I can't wrap my head around why, since Unicron alone is not anything to be hyped up over given he never was going to transform because as much as the films threaten Earth, they never would actually dare let the Autobots have anything else than absolute victory and Earth getting screwed sorta means that victory would be bittersweet at best.

There's nothing the films offer worth causing more irreparable damage to the franchise than what's already been done. Sure, there still will be fans, but look at how quickly the fair weather fans have long since abandoned this site once it was clear Bumblebee was not going to be more baytrash. The sooner people accept the end already came in 2017, the sooner they can move on and be happier.

Exactly. At first I was disappointed that the Cinematic Universe was cancelled. But the more I think about it, the more I realize it's a good thing. Transformers movies based around historical events would wear thin really fast, and you can't even do proper Transformers movies pre-1900...there weren't any vehicles besides steam trains (and non-automobiles, like covered wagons and whatnot). They might be able to do a good WW2 movie and a couple others (like Beast Wars or more '80s movies), but it's ultimately a dead end, because it's very limiting. They can't continue indefinitely (like Marvel) with that approach.

In my opinions, and these opinions are not incompatible, I wish they had never attempted a cinematic universe, but instead had continued with a second trilogy, of which Age of Extinction were the first, Transformers 5 the second film in the trilogy, and then had a conclusion. I have always maintained that I would have preferred a traditional lineup of sequels over a cinematic universe.

Far from being the wrong decision, I think it was actually the right decision to continue the films after DotM. A major charm of Transformers to me is that you have this war between alien robots who think and feel, and as this war rages on, both sides have their losses and setbacks, and characters, even fan favorites, die or become stranded or isolated. The casts change. Old characters die or change, and new ones show up in the picture. A reboot, however well executed it may have been, would have almost certainly been a reimagining of the same cast and scenarios of the first three Bay films to some degree. A continuation was the best chance at trying new things, and whether one likes the new things post-DotM, the films undoubtedly did try things new to the movies, like Lockdown and his ship of alien wonders, Dinobots, Transformium and human-made Transformers, Transformer Knights, and Cogman.

And I'd much rather have a series of Transformers films that tries things out, both hits and misses, than a series of cookie-cutter films that just go through the fandom-pleasing motions and rehashes everyone's preferred characters and status quos.

In my opinion it’s time to move on. The general audience is tired of these movies at this point and there already has been 10 years of Bay Transformers media. + Where is there to go in terms of story?

    Definitely agree.

I really liked Bumblebee, and that opening sequence on Cybertron is awesome, but at the same time I feel like it’s “too” G1. I love G1, but like, I don’t want it in every Transformers media. What I loved about the Bay movies was that they weren’t just trying to recreate G1, but rather took elements and homages from the show but are largely their own thing.

I have maintained since Bee came out that the ideal live action film would be neither Bumblebee nor The Last Knight, but something half-way between the two. Bumblebee, while a cute family film, was TOO safe and had not enough going on plot-wise and lacked the visual scale of the Bay films. The Last Knight had TOO much in the way of story, too many robots, and overdid the visual scale/CGI budget.

I would like something with less going on than The Last Knight, but more complex than Bumblebee. Something that embraces the weirdness and over-the-top nature of the brand like The Last Knight, but focuses more on a smaller group of characters that get more to them as individuals. Something with the visual scale and sound effects of the Bay films, but without going as overboard as Cybertron coming to Earth again. A bigger fictional universe than Bumblebee, but a more intimate story than The Last Knight.

Once again, nail on the head.
Like I said, Bumblebee is great, but looking back, I just loved the big epic scope of the Bay movies.
But The Last Knight was definitely a bit much. There was too much going on that didn’t make sense (even by Transformers standards lol) and so much that wasn’t explained.
