Yes it is, but there are tabs on the handle so it will work with any 5mm hand but it works best with PE hands that have slots for the tabs.

Prowl was a perennial background cast member, and especially so in the original G1 cartoon. Despite apparently holding a position of relative authority within the Autobot ranks (not that they had ranks) and showing up with regularity in the first season (and some of the second) Prowl didn't really have a whole lot to do. In practical terms there was little that he could do that couldn't be done by anyone else, so he ended up being treated as just One Of The Guys. He enjoyed more of a turn in the early Marvel G1 comics, memorably trying to convince Optimus Prime to create an army of giant killer robot sentinels to annihilate the Decpeticons because presumably he'd been reading X-Men quite a lot. Or Simon Furman had, at any rate. But even here he didn't have a huge role to play. Mostly he was just another Autobot.

But his continued background presence and smart police car alt mode meant that he was still noticeable, to the point that when he started showing up again in the Earthforce series in the comics, tiny infant @Imperator didn't even bat an eyelid. Prowl was a stalwart Autobot, he looked cool, so why wouldn't he be kicking ass amongst the polar bears in Canada? He would later return to the main storyline thanks to an Action Master toy to go with his Classics release. But he was still always drawn in his original form, with the door wings and the massive boobs concealed in the front end of his car mode. I mean, you can't ever change that, can you?

So in Combiner Wars they went and changed it. flat chested, no wings, it's almost like they just took Streetwise and gave him a new head. Oh, that's what they did? Cool cool cool. I mean, if you already had Streetwise you couldn't be faulted for not bothering with Prowl, because let's face it, their similarities are brought into sharp relief when the only physical change is a head.

But then... Prowl's the one to make this version of the mould look good. It might have been made for Streetwise, but Prowl carries it off far, far better. It's the sharper, cleaner colour scheme, the more delicate and deliberate facial features, and it makes an astonishing difference. For a quick-and-dirty redeco, Prowl is one hell of a good time. It helps that this is the Dead End mould, which pretty much instantly rose to the top of the CW heap as the star, and one of the best carformer moulds we'd had in a long time. Not just for its aesthetics, you understand, but for being pretty and not being a pain in the arse to transform, and in fact being a genuine pleasure. That he can combine as well is a bonus, but not a necessity. Like every limb-bot in CW, he's just as much fun on his own terms.

I'm kinda worried for Prowl's future though. His appearances in the IDW comics had him coming off somewhat strong, gradually shifting to absolute anti-villainy in the post-war era, and setting a rather bleak tone for the character's role in the wider franchise. Strongly-defined characters are always the ones who take off best in TF fiction, and Prowl's IDW incarnation was about as strong as you could possibly get, taking his irritability shown in the Marvel era and dialling it up to eleven. Still, it's a relief that so far in Cyberverse he seems to have returned to his roots as One Of The Guys, rather than a closet fascist ready to fuck his way into everyone's business.

    Nee-naw, nee-naw, and indeed, nee-naw.

Say what you will about Dead End being an overused mold, but I still think it was overused for a good reason. It was very versatile, and this definitely shows just one example!

Combiner Wars has a lot of very good molds for deluxe figures and voyagers. And then it had Brawl.

Skydive was another overused mold. That being said, I did like the UW Thrust re-mold, even if it did lack his green nipple gun.

I always like how repaints and remolds make Transformers look more like a race. Diversity is nice and they are robots that could be built in as many styles as the toys are made, but having so many that look the same makes them seem more real. It's like we could make a car-bot-combiner-limb different but this design works so why mess with it?

I think I prefer the white hands here instead of black. That might change once the upgrade kit is installed.

Yeah, I agree. It’s fun to have a lot of different molds as a toy line collector, but if you put any thought into a society where everyone has so much variance in body type, size, articulation, etc you go crazy.

Want to go nuts? Think about how a chair would work on Cybertron? We see them all the time in comics but take your toys and try to design a chair that fits more that a few different molds. Good luck.

And if chairs are an impossible challenge, think about design the control panels and consoles on an Ark. Do you custom build each bridge station?

A lot of the molds got reused because even the bad modes were often good in at least two of the three molds. Even Brawl.

Sit and think about it a while and you realize that all the legends, deluxes, and voyagers have at least two modes they look really good displayed in. It was a really solid line. And most of the combined modes work way better than they have any right to.

My theory is that the furniture and work stations can transform to accommodate the user.

They’d have to. It’s the only reasonable explanation.
