Soooo... If this is taken under the hyper brightening Roadking lights, is this guy going to be black??

Also it looks like there is no ab crunch or even waist swivel  

 

There’s some waist swivel. In some of the flying robot poses on the translucent blue posts, you can see a tiny amount of twist.

That said I could see reduced articulation, so only a slight twist is possible.

Yeah, it looks pretty dam great! If I'm pickin nits, I'd like the train wheels to be not purple but its a minor issue, more of a preference really.

 

I wanna see the back of the bot mode

 

I like everything about it except that gappy line down the center of his chest when it's in the toon-style "no chest plate" configuration. It just looks like corrugated plastic cross-section to me. But it's not a deal-breaker at all. Still looks really good otherwise.

 

I hope there is some legitimate waist swivel in this figure. It would determine if this Astrotain is worth the price of admission for me.

CNY is super early next year (Jan 25) so I'm not expecting to see much more than another 2 figures from FT beforehand. Probably the next Aaerialbot and the Galvatron reissue. If we're lucky they may squeeze one more in but not really expecting much. But I imagine this is probably going to be 2nd half of next year, unless FT are willing to slow down on Combiner releases.

Also, I only just noticed the clear train tracks. Comes from them also forming a stand for shuttle mode. I'm expecting to get several copies of this, so at least one set of tracks will need to be painted.

its right for road king to be big, the constructicons were seeker sized and motormaster is doing the combiner work of two of them. astrotrain should be big cause he turns into two big things, and carries people around.

That's perfect, then. Like 20 degrees to either side is more than enough for natural waist swivel.

 

By that logic, Megatron and Soundwave should be tiny because they turn into two small things and other robots carry them around... There is little correlation between alt mode size and bot mode size. It has never aligned with any consistency, especially on the Decepticon side. Astrotrain is supposed to be seeker height, though, based both on toon scenes and the official scale chart. Not much debate there.

The Stunticons don't have any official scale point of reference other than fan created and toon scenes, so while I would disagree that Road King is supposed to be as big as he is, I will concede that nobody can definitively say. It's going to come down to personal preference and basing it off the logic of an entirely illogical and inconsistent animation.

 

I’d really like to buy this prior to moving to Malaysia but I doubt his will be out in the next 6 months
