Yeah; I'm sorry if any earlier statements I made to the contrary came off as misogynistic. Having younger cousins and second cousins (the vast majority of whom are female), I'm normally more attuned to this sort of thing than most people my age (22, as of writing).

I shipped Charlie and Memo and saw their interactions as romantic subtext, so I am a biased observer (and damn proud of it!); so I'm seeing the film through rose-coloured glasses.

I just agree in the sense that it was implied there was some interest in the popular guy since the "U wish" and stuff and since this movie is very straight forward and has a what you see if what you get approach I think it was hinted there.Memo was just seen as the beta friendly character and as part of the audience I'm glad there was no romantic involvment there but I believe characters like that deserve more appreciation. Some individuals immediately see the notion of being nice as not being honest and trying to get something out of it and thinking those people feel they deserve the world just because they're nice but I can't say it's a fair statement...that's their nature of being kind..so it is what it is.
That's correct, the only thing that makes the difference is if you're the sidekick guy or the one that already has attention lol

You mean the licence plate on the Mercedes? In the context of the 80s, that Merc was a high end luxury car. It was a form of expressing high end social class in the sense if "U Wish you had this car/kind of money". That's why the car got targeted for egging at the bitchy girl's house because it was hers, not the guy's.

Memo really feels like a 3rd wheel to me. I get it, Charlie needs actual human friends once Bumblebee leaves her to go back to his kind but like....man he just feels like a 3rd wheel you know.

They egged that car because was the girl was mean about her dad. Charlie still clearly liked that guy in the beginning though and nearly dived off the cliff to impress him

You put it better here than I ever could.
Really? Didn't Memo make the decision to stay behind and urge Charlie and Bumblebee to go? I might be misremembering, admittedly. In any case, I don't blame Charlie for being hesitant in pursuing a friendship, let alone a relationship, with Memo when she has just opened up to someone for the first time since her father's death, especially since Bumblebee is being ruthlessly hunted by Decepticons who want to kill him and everyone associated with him. After everything she had gone through during the film, I absolutely understand her not wanting to jump into another relationship of any nature. The problem with her mother is that she was pushing Charlie to move on before she was ready. To his credit, Memo seems to understand that Charlie still needs time and is willing to accept that she has a say in how fast their relationship develops and what kind of relationship it ultimately becomes.

Besides, the reason Charlie opens up to Bumblebee is because Bumblebee is also recovering from a personal tragedy and struggling to recover from it. For all his good intentions, Memo does not understand what Charlie is going through quite the way Bumblebee does.
