Okay, show of hands, who loved all the lovely little Easter eggs they dropped at the end?

I've not beaten the campaign (it's very good so far), but I'll look forward to seeing that Easter egg at the end.

My favorite missions were anything stealth involving night vision googles.

Boy was this a far cry from the more action movie like originals.

So I'm not super convinced? IW hyped up this game as more "realistic" and gritty but it felt like the same, just a different flavor? It's still very action movie but not like the whole macho stuff. There's a bunch of little things that I liked, but aside from the higher fidelity graphics and attention to aesthetic detail the game's story isn't any more realistic. It's still corny and hammy as the other MW games were.

    I’ve beaten the campaign.

It was nice. A lot of fun, but it wasn’t as controversial as the developers were making it to be.

Also, cool Easter egg at the end.

Time to wait for Modern Warfare 2 and 3 I guess...

I’ll try Spec Ops now. Let’s see how much more happens, story wise.

Honestly even if I was inclined to make an InfinityWard account to play it, I’m not sure if my ageing but otherwise capable rig could run it.

Downloaded it Friday..Took a while even on my connection. Multiple packs to download and all that. Played Sat and Sun and Level 25 on MP so far. Game plays great.
This is the most excited I've been for this game since the First Modern Warfare. This is less of the running and gunning. It's still there, but it rewards patience as well.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare accused of "rewriting history" to blame Russia for controversial US attacks

Looks like it gathered a big controversy.

The article has a spoiler for the campaign, and makes reference to some politics, but here's the summary.

The game makes specific reference for a deadly event that occured during the First Gulf War, and the game says the Russians did it; in reality, it was a US-led operation.

I can see why people would be upset. Misrepresentation of real life events would be considered by some as disheartening.

That’s not all Russian users have been blasting the game for its portrayal of Russian soldiers in general. It’s quite ugly.

    And quite unfortunate.

Yeah. I’m surprised that a lot of Russians are represent as the villains here. Maybe in the next entry, it’ll be a two way street that includes Russians and Americans?

Hearing that Shepherd is in the game means that it is possible that not every American is guilty free as the game is currently making them out to be.

It’s worth mentioning that the game didn’t portray every Russian as a villain. Just a significant amount, although so did the last trilogy, and I didn’t hear or see many people being against that.

Those were Ultranationalist rebels/terrorists, in which we worked with Loyalists throughout the first game, where as here these were supposed to be a rogue faction, but it wasn’t very well established. They still dressed like Russian military and wore the flag.

Considering how Spec Ops is portraying things, and they’ve now introduced a lot of familiar villains from the original games, here’s hoping they can do things better three years from now....

    Agreed.

The game has already got some review bombing on the user score:

Call of Duty in 'anti-Russian' row with gamers

That's ashame, because outside of this controversy, the story is decent.

Although, saying that, I've never liked the idea of review bombing, and it's why I don't take user scores seriously, but it can't be ignored nevertheless.

Also, won't the next Call Of Duty game from Infinity Ward be in 2021, now that Treyarch, Sledgehammer Games and Raven Games are now working together for the 2020 entry:

Here's something I've found on Wikipedia to consider, regarding Russia's portrayal:

Despite the portrayal of the Russian soldiers which was seen as negative by the users, the game's cooperative Special Ops mode, which incorporates the campaign's story, sees the playable character and their group eventually team up with Russian forces for a mission.

Yeah, but by then the damage has already done. Everyone’s already upset by what they saw before.

True, although I wouldn’t go as far to say that everyone is upset (unless I’m underestimating the scope of the controversy); it seems to be mainly Russians who are offended.

It won’t damage the game in the long term to be honest. It isn’t the first one to gather controversy, and it likely won’t be the last.

Yeah, but still, it’s a significant portion of the audience. Which have now been more or less alienated.

Really? Dang. Infinity Ward should probably respond otherwise the damage will remain unchecked.
