I usually don't do OC stuff, but I have always wanted to do a black repaint of the HftD Terradive mold, easily one of the best jet-formers ever. I went with black as the base, using VHT black vinyl dye, then highlighted with slate gray, and did a head swap with a Prime Vehicon. Added a number of little details throughout, but I still have a little more to go. The cockpit will be shaded purple to match the optics, plus I may put some dark silver on a few areas. Still needs a fraction symbol, and a name. I'm leaning towards Firefox, as a name homage to the old Clint Eastwood movie.
There are some great names to choose from in the "Disappeared" section on TFwiki. When I see this guy, the name Nightfall comes to mind. And I want this guy...
Firefox was the first thing that came to mind as well, also because of the movie. Nice work, that new vinyl dye does a nice job! That head is perfect for him.
How about "Tarantula"? It's a super obscure reference: there was an old 1955 B-movie called Tarantula that had Clint Eastwood make an uncredited appearance as the fighter jet pilot that kills the Tarantula.
Hmmm... some good suggestions here! I'm still liking Firefox, but from the Disappeared section, Nightfall, Wingshot, Static and Dawnlight all sound good. I'm thinking of making her weapon (yeah, I thought a female flier to counter Windbag would be cool) a sniper rifle as well.
That alt-mode isn't a dead match, but somehow I still knew instantly that this was a Firefox homage as soon as I saw the thumbnail. zmog
Okay then, I will be sticking with Firefox. I'll definitely be keeping the other names on hand for the next one I do.
Well, I mean... these days, it just sounds like an internet browser. Fun fact: During the cold-war years, NATO didn't always have detailed intel on Russian aircraft, so they gave them code-names that started with F (for fighters), B (for bombers), or H (for helicopters). "Firefox" wasn't a NATO designation for a real fighter jet, but it comes from the same tradition as the Fulcrum, Fencer, Flanker, Foxbat, etc... zmog
I agree 1000%. The vehicon head (while not a reference to the helmets from the movie) does make me think of Clint Eastwood and the shape of his face and the way his eyes squint kinda matches the thin visor slit.
I own every version of this mold released to date, I was happy, the Airmada was complete. And then this beautiful creature. I must have it. Damn you and your awesome work. My agony shall know no bounds. Great job! Beautiful paint scheme and the vehicon head is very befitting!
This is ridiculously inspiring, nice work!! I even have a headless Space Case in the parts bin that would be perfect for this. Was there anything special with the head swap or was it just plug and play?
The ball joint is exactly the same for the Vehicon head. The only issue was removing Terradive's head as it's in three parts.
