Yeah, what's 'hot' in another medium is usually a disaster for toys. Usually because by the time the toy companies A) realize a property is popular and B) develop the toy line, it isn't relevant anymore.

What a successful toy company needs to do is completely ignore all wish-listing.

Try reading what I wrote again. Carefully. Then revise what you wrote.

Furthermore, I'm not going to keep arguing with people that have unrealistic expectations of a business trying to ressurect itself will just immediately spring back up in full force as they used to be, that people will wait around forever for a possible chance at their old job back when they've got bills to pay, or who harbor petty delusions that a company going out of business and being forced to let go of its workers were just doing it to be spiteful bastards.

Use a little common sense people.

Instead of making demands, why don’t you just tell me what I didn’t get from your previous post?

This is a message board, not a critical theory class in grad school. The author isn’t dead. If I misinterpreted you, you can explain and we can shake hands and continue forward!

But that's exactly what a toy store should be these days. The giant box store isn't as relevant anymore.

Even hugely successful stores with massive footprints are experimenting with smaller format units.

The interactive experiences are exactly what more stores need to do to get people into the building.

    Alright, I'll bite.

How are stores that can't keep enough inventory on hand to buy going to keep enough to try and buy? Are they trying to sell kids on a floor model and place an order for parents to pick up in 2-3 days? God, if they weren't already destined to be a showroom for Amazon, that would absolutely seal the deal.

The interactive experiences aren't for collector stuff that'll sell out and disappear. They're not opening a set of Marvel Legends and throwing them on a table to play with. These are for code, evergreen products. Like the NERF booth...it doesn't matter what products are available, it can be customized to whichever product is available.

Also, they are branded experiences, so obviously the vendors are going to be invested in having the product available.

A lot of the proposed things are already done by TRU Canada, just a little more ad hoc without as much investment into it.

This is a general retail trend, and it's good that they are using it in their relaunch. The point is that the big box 'warehouse' model is outdated for most product areas.

Toys R Us doesn't need a physical location, it needs a better online presence and actual inventory to stock it with.

    Correct me if I'm wrong,
But it's this just the guy who walked away from the bankruptcy auction with the naming rights?
Guy has no business model, no plan, just was picking up the brand name to resell at a later date.
Just look at how much hype he generated for two pop up stores!
There's a local vineyard in PA with more of a footprint. Heck, my trucking company has more of a footprint! But neither make national news.

Those aren't a beloved brand that went through an international meltdown. This isn't news because it will directly affect a lot of people. Its big news because it gives hope that a company can resurrect itself.

It also happens to be Christmas time, when the news often focuses a lot on even less relevant toy news.

I might buy something online from them if they've got something we want.
