I am wondering, why is Ferrari that sensitive about their image? I mean how would associating their cars with transforming robots look bad for them? Is it because Transformers is associated with war or are they just extremely picky about who can make cars that look like their cars.

 

I mean how often do you see the sigils on the autobots and decepticons? If they do have it, it's as tiny as Optimus' sigil by his chest windows.

 

Because they want to be.

I'm really excited for jeep bee. I wish that they'd redo the vw bug bee though because the one we got was not very good imo

 

I want to be hopeful for the Wreckers, but they're going to be another set of figures where the roof hangs off the back, I can only assume.

It's not just Transformers. Ferrari has rules that you have to abide by when you buy one of their cars. For example, you can't color a Ferrari except the base colors they provide for you.

Deadmau5 put a cyan Nyan cat wrap on his Ferrari and they demanded he remove it. Even though it's his car. They're fiercely loyal about their brand, and only give their license to only one toy manufacturer at a time as well.

You can't even change the badges or floor mats.

1. Dino besides Wheeljack is the only Car Transformer without a Stealth Mode in the film. I read it's because Ferrari didn't want to "defile" their product or something.
2. Dino was supposed to die in place of Que. Starscream would've killed him while Soundwave would later play with his decapitated head to taunt the Autobots. Once again, Ferrari objected and Que was made to die instead.

Only for the video games. For some reason Audi wouldn't let them use it for their toys.

I have a feeling his rushed and mismanaged designing process (the Wiki explains in greater detail) meant Hasbro didn't have enough time left to obtain his license. I hope that by now, with better planning, Hasbro's made steps for a proper licensing proposal for Studio Series.

 

If Hasbro releases another red Sideways and calls it Mirage, Ferrari can try to sue but I doubt they'd have much of case. I think now it's more of a question of whether or not Hasbro feels people would accept another inaccurate place holder like that as their "Dino" in heavily screen accurate focused line like Studio Series?

 

I think it'd be relevant to point out that Hasbro has already made a figure that's clearly an unlicensed approximation of the Ferrari 458 Italia: Combiner Wars Dead End.



They even released it in bright red later for the G2 boxset, as well as many other redecos. No legal issues transpired because it was different enough from the real thing to be called a made-up car. They did it once, they could probably do it again.

 

Don't we all miss the good ol' G1 days where no one cared about IP for cars and just made toys that turned from these cars into robots? :-D
