If they were functional and stored swords I wouldn't mind, but as is, they just hang off the legs. It was annoying on early toys like the 1/72 Yamato YF/VF-19's and Bandai DX 1/65 Fire Valkyrie since those wing roots used to loosen up quick in battroid mode. When Kawamori redesigned MP3 Starscream he actually added the CFT panels to resemble scabbards in robot mode actually.
Personal preference, I guess... Speaking of which, I just finished this sucker off! Not sure if I'll keep it with my other PLUS series models, but since I don't have any other models from frontier yet, it fits fine there for now. I tried not to weather too hard, since Isamu loves his 19, but he's been flying this thing for nearly 20 years, so it would have seen some wear and tear
One thing I like about the VF-1 is that the super/strike packs don't attach on the wings. Everytime I see them on the wings, it just feels out of place IMO.
I actually love the weathering. Reminds me of the X-Wings in the original trilogy. Also it would fit a story where Isamu is some sort of pilot that is loosely attached to the SMS.
Thanks! I like the idea that it's been a little while since he'd had an overhaul, he knows his plane so well that he's reluctant to have the bolts tightened down since it would minutely change how it handles
vintage original 1983 IMAI release of the Famous/Infamous 1/72 VF-1J/S/A/D VARIABLE TYPE Parts-Forming model kit that BANDAI kept continuously re-issuing every few years from about 1985 to about 2005 or so...
It's actually not the same YF-19 he flew in Plus. It's a VF-19EF reverse engineered(using some of his SMS salary for funding) with the ISC from the VF-25, more maneuverable than the VF-25 and engines with more thrust than the VF-19EF, but repainted in the same colors as his YF-19. The back story is that he left a desk job from NUNS to join SMS to fly again.
Buncha enablers on this thread. After flipping my VF-1J, I was gonna pass on the Max and just wait for the Roy 1S, Cannon Fodder, and Max 1J, and then call it a day. The thought of having every color variation of the same toy never appealed to me. But then I realized how much I'll regret not picking this up once it's sold out--the valk featured in some of the most memorable (and some of my favorite) scenes in SDFM. In hand, the white is not nearly as bright as I expected, which is great. Depending on your lighting, it comes off as an off-white, even a verrrry light grey, in contrast to the stark white of the Yamato 1/60 V2. If I had known that, I would have jumped on it much sooner. So far, fit and finish are great, though I do worry about how well the diecast hip ball joints will hold up over time.
Bandai showed their DX CHogokin YF-21, in the no photo booth though Edit : Some brave soul actually managed to take pictures
Okay, I will break my promise of waking up at 2:30 in the morning to constantly refresh multiple online japanese store webpages to get my grubby hands on this.
