Flame Toys Furai Megatron (IDW Autobot version)

    20191019_212107.jpg

I'm not usually one for model kits, but when I saw that Flame Toys would be doing one of Megatron as he appeared in MTMTE I knew I had to own it as both a Megatron collector and a MTMTE fan. It's felt like an awful long wait! It's been nearly a year since the first official photos were shown and longer since it was first displayed at conventions.

    20191019_212308.jpg

As he's a model kit, Megatron comes on plastic sprues and has to be assembled by yourself. He's unpainted, but the sprues come in a variety of colours (including trans-red for the eyes) so it's not really needed. The instructions say to use a nipper to remove the parts from the sprues and, while I did have one, I don't think it's particularly needed as the parts snap off mostly cleanly and any plastic flash tends to end up on the inside of the figure. As I said, I'm not used to model kits, but I was able to assemble Megatron without difficulty.

He comes with a foil sticker sheet, which is also optional. To be honest I intended to only use the Autobot symbol but, to my horror, I accidently broke Megatron's chest piece (you might notice a crack on his left-side) and so was forced to use the chest stickers to cover the damage. I don't love the stickers and his chest swirls are modeled on the figure, albeit unpainted, so feel free to skip them. In fact, there are four triangular stickers I for the life of me can't work out where they go and they're not mentioned in the instructions at all.

He's incredibly posable! This version of the character was more tired and reserved than most, so he wasn't one for dynamic poses but this figure can nonetheless do them! In combination with a Tamashii Stand he can pretty well pull off any pose you could want.

    20191019_213806.jpg

For accessories he comes with open and closed interchangeble hands and his Fusion Cannon. Some may not be too fussed about the later as he only used it in one scene during the comics before it was promptly destroyed, but I'm still glad he has it. The figure actually has a good bit of personality about him, I think.

I highly recommend getting this toy whether you're a Megatron, MTMTE or model kit fan. It looks great, is easy to build and is fun to play with! I'll definitely be picking up the MTMTE Rodimus when it's eventually released and hope that they do many more characters.

I think those triangular stickers go on the hip armor:

How many different colors are there? I might get it and paint it up but dunno about how many different shades of grays are needed.

Admittedly it's a bit hard with my coloir-blindness, but I think there's four: two shades of grey, red and black.

I think this model kit will be my stand in for IDW Autobot Megatron - I like the design in general. But I was never that big of a fan of the MMC toy (too beefy, lame altmodes, no accurate Fusion Cannon, but the Miner parts are cool).

Can someone do pictures with other IDW inspired toys? Official and 3rd party? Much appreciated.

I was looking for a review thread after I snapped this kit together. It's awesome, plain and simple. I fully recommend it, and I plan on at least panel lining the chest (the foil stickers do nothing for me).

EDIT: I do recommend gluing the tiny red bits into his hip skirts though. They fell out a few times while i was putting him together.

I think he sizes up pretty well with Hasbro toys and the Maketoys Manga bots. He's too small for the MMC stuff though.

Here’s a few photos I took of mine. I highly recommend painting the eyes as the dark red plastic gives him the dead effect. I used a red metallic Gundam marker to paint mine and I can see the eyes now.

And he is in scale with Siege Optimus and BB Movie Optimus.

Picked him up yesterday at a local Barnes and Noble. Put him together with my girlfriend and I gotta say, he is just an absolute beauty to look at. Any fan of the IDW MTMTE run would be remiss to not snag one.

He's about a head and a half or two taller than Titans Return Rodimus and their deluxes, and Tailgate is about up to his thigh, so he scales fantastically (although he is just a tad shorter than, say, Titans Return Megatron- whom I had been using as a fill-in). I was originally planning to spring for an MMC Tyrantron. I now no longer have the urge and this guy costs almost a third of the price. That sparks my wallet's joy.

There's a number of colors implemented from his plastic parts. About 3 shades of grey, black, red, and translucent red for the eyes and they break him up very well.

Holds together great, looks even better. Absolutely worth the buy.

A fantastic model of a fantastic design that I just cannot bring myself to buy due to the character it represents.

The fact that the face is incredibly accurate, and thus entirely flat and and neutral in expression really kills the posing options IMO. It also makes the possibility of using him as a counterpart to their IDW Optimus unlikely given that Prime has such a wonderfully dynamic and determined expression in the eyes. Prime looks pissed and Megatron looks half asleep.

Looks like a beautiful and affordable stand-in for one of my favorite representations of the character!

Really appreciate the find man. Was wondering how hard it would be to transplant some pieces over into the siege figure, but the siege version is a bit too wide it seems

Does he come with a colour swatch to match paints to? If he does, which colours?

I ordered him through a local shop a little bit back and I should have mine in the next week. I'm not patient enough to entirely paint him, but I at least want to go over him with a few Gundam markers and add the dark grey details where he needs it, like his helmet... looks like it's got a tinge of blue in it rather than just being a bottle dark grey.

And also paint the red block on his chest before applying a toyhax autobot symbol. That shiny foil chest looks..... ehhhhhhhhh...

Has anyone glued theirs? In the instructions it says it is advised in step 15 and I don't have any glue at home. So I wonder if this is really better or if I can skip it.

does anyone know how to do the first step with the shoulder hinges? I can't get them to fit and I don't want to stress the plastic.

I just ordered this guy on sale for $25. Does he require paint and glue? Yes, I read the OP but sometimes things vary...
