I’ll be honest, I’m not the most knowledgable Gobots fan, I haven’t watched most of the cartoon but know of the characters from all I could research online and their involvement in the Funpub comics, and personally I don’t think the original Gobots cartoon was all that good. Yet, theres a part of me that has this inate love for them for their relation to Transformers via the club, and this has made me feel like my collection won’t be as complete without any of the Gobots as much as it would be without any of the Ark crew.

I know that the legal rights to the Gobots are a sort of mess, with Bandai also owning them in a sort as Machine Robo. Still though, I want Gobots, so I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a revival of them outside of the comics. Maybe they could be their own thing, or perhaps better yet they could be like spin-off of Transformers, the one crossover we could have actually needed in IDW. I personally feel like marketing them as part of Transformers would be the smartest angle. We have many colony worlds in fiction, and plenty of ways for them to have come about and fit comfortably within the lore.

So lets say they did come back, and you wanted them, how would you like Hasbro to handle them? Connected to Transformers? Their own thing? Would you be interested in the repaints Funpub teased at in their stories or would you prefer brand new molds?

I’d prefer maybe turn some of the gobots into autobots or decepticons and have one or 2 per 2 waves or so

Gobots-themed repaints would be pretty cool, but then again, so would new figures.

Honestly, I'd rather see Bandai reissue the original Machine Robo ¥600 line than have more new fiction. Especially if they do it at a reasonable price. (under $20 a pop)

some of the new Machine Robo stuff fits in ok with a CHUG Collection. Specifically the leader-1. but I would frickin LOVE if they made a side line of Gobots. or even a haslab thing of the main 6 in a box set.

I would love some new Go-Bots toys from Hasbro.

Bandai owns the rights to the original toy designs. Hasbro owns the names and fiction.

I see no reason why Hasbro couldn’t handle Go-Bots the same way they handled Transformers from Classics through Seige. Take 2006 Classics Optimus Prime for example. He looks enough like Optimus to be recognizable but different enough to be unique. If they made every Go-Bot in that same manor, I don’t think there would be any legal issues with Bandai. If Hasbro could work out a deal with Hanna-Barbera for the rights to use the cartoon appearance then that would even better distinguish them from the Bandai designs.

I was collecting Gobots before Transformers hit stores. I love the toy line but I despise the babyish cartoon. I would want toy accurate updates but the fans always demand cartoon accuracy. So NO. The cartoon faces are fucking horrible.

What did you think of the Machine Robo reboot line? (Gobots in Japan, though the fiction different) I have one of the figures and think it's great :)

Yes! I would be all over that.

I might be off but I THINK Hasbro owns the later U.S. redeco looks if not the underlying toys. Black and green Cy-Kill, blue and grey Leader-1, etc. Using those color schemes probably helps with new homages.

Those were my Leader 1 and Cy-Kill when I was a kid. I would love to get those 2 in those colors.

I think they look okay, but they are too small and the aesthetic varies to much from the originals for my taste.

A Gobot reboot would be cool. I have one vintage Gobot, and he's got a sweet alt mode.

I'd be all for a new Gobots line, but I think I'd rather see it more as its own thing instead of just a series of repaints of already established Transformers molds, not that it would be a bad thing. But Gobots has always had it's own distinct identity separate from Transformers in TV, toys, and now comic book and I would like to see that maintained in a new line. Also I would love to see a new Pincher and definitely a new Scooter mold figure. Hey, the character in the TV show might have been annoying but toywise, Scooter was 100% awesome fun.

Yes, but I'd LOVE to see them totally incorporated now as full fledged Transformers characters.

I'd have them be a part of a new faction. Have the classic GoBots be the focus of the faction but have previously established but little used Transformers fill out the roster of the new faction.

    I'd enjoy seeing a line similar to Generations for the Gobots. If for no other reason than getting some exciting/unique vehicle modes out of it;

That would be an cool idea, maybe they could try out making "Evergreen" designs based on the characters. Taking Elements from both their Cartoon & Toy incarnations, Maybe collaborate with anyone working at their Tonka division or something. Maybe make an simple, yet fun line that focuses on making affordable yet very well articulated figures. And having an good amount of 5mm, 3mm & Siege Effect systems would be great to have. Since most of the gobots use their lasers and such using their fists.

I would love the Gobots in Generations. I don't care about the fiction. Just gimme the toys! I got most of the new Machine Robo figures, and they're great! They come with unnecessary stands that jack the price up, but they're still great! :p  And thanks to legal crap I am not getting into because I don't have a cork board and nearly enough string, there's characters that won't be updated, like Path Finder. And dammit, I need an updated path Finder. And not some damned recolor of Cosmos, either!
