Truth be told, I was ecstatic about the original DOTM Shockwave, but I always thought him having permanent curling arms was annoying.

But seeing these in-hand images of Shocky and the much bulkier legs, I might be tempted to grab yet another Shockwave (since I already have Siege Shocky). I was turned off at first by how far the foot went, but the in-hand images makes it look like you can adjust them.

 

Yup, the DotM one is going up for sale.

 

Wait...he’s SS-56??? When I counted every single movie design I got somewhere in the neighborhood of 109. Takeing into account the bumblebee movie, and a couple of repaints, Hasbro has released almost half of the movie designs. (That’s including background characters, if you just go by named characters, and go by hasbro’s release scheme of multiples for triple changers etc, the number is actually 106)

 

Never got the DoTM version. Will probably get this.

Ugh this looks so perfect. SS Shockwave was my biggest want from the line and it looks beautiful. I\'d be upset about them using the base of ROTF Megatron but honestly this is a wonderful reuse of the mold. He looks so beefy and emotive, ughhhh can\'t wait. 

 

Man that alt mode is absolutely awful. I do really like how they painted the figure though, that looks amazing. This is definitely a figure that would get transformed into its alt mode once just to see how it looks in person and never transformed again.

Honestly, people get too hung up on the "Robots in Disguise" tagline. That's all it is, is a cute marketing jingle. The franchise has very rarely concerned itself with maintaining that masquerade for very long.

As the characters are represented on Cybertron, the "disguise" factor is entirely moot. So as long as the toy looks like it has a suitably different functionality in alt-mode, I can accept it. It's not just a robot doing a faceplant.

I'm absolutely loving that massive generator pack on his back. Between that and the giant gun-arm, he's looking absolutely brutal.

 

Cybertron still utilised vehicles, machines and other objects that weren't other Cybertronians, so "disguise" WAS one of the reasons for transforming.

However, I loved the FOC game's use of transformation to create "battle modes" or to charge the function of a Cybertronian. Those stalking drones that could change into "hunter" mode were quite scary. Similarly, a Macross style "gerwalk" mode, or the configurations of Diaclone vehicles also highlights this.

 

So does the blade not plug into the underside of the forearm like in the promotional images (and the film)?

Very happy with what I have seen so far and even the alt mode is growing on me, especially how the backpack becomes pseudo-rockets in alt mode.
