That is a crappy alt mode. Luckily everything else about him is awesome. Really didn't notice how nice the paintwork was until now. That purple dry brushing(?) look is really pretty.

 

Just upscale the parts (make them bigger).
Just look at SS Starscream. He's mostly an upscaled DotM Starscream.

I already used this technique with silver and gunmetal-grey (so as common with normal metalcolors) all over my SS RotF Megatron, but now I'm thinking about using this technique with other colors, too.

I think there's a difference between build-a-figures and action masters.

Plus, Maccadam could easily be a repaint of any potential Bulkhead figures. If Hasbro has any planned, that is.

What I'm saying is if Hasbro made more Bulkhead figures in the future, based on his appearance in Prime, and wanted to make a Maccadam figure that transformed, they could just repaint/remold one of those.

I'm aware, which is why I'm more forgiving. At the very least, I'm glad they didn't make sacrifices to the robot mode to facilitate a cleaner alt.

In concept, yes. But this is pretty unlikely as Bulkhead didn't appear in the show yet but Maccadam did. So I'd say it'll be the other way 'round IF at all. But with PREmolds/-uses being a common thing nowadays you sometimes can't really tell what's the original intention of a mold anyways.

 

It's really not a big deal at the end of the day, but the reused hips are really the only thing that stick out even a little here. The treads being reused is A-OK since they get hidden in robot mode, but those hips just stick out. Wonder if a 3rd party will create new ones, since those tend to be easily unscrewed.

Otherwise this looks fantastic.
