I tend to read inside my heas most of time, and whenever I do this I give the characters voices. Basically how I think a character will sound in a story. I base this off voice actors who had the characters. What is your ideal voice for these characters? Deadpool - John Kassir and Nolan North (Nolan North sounds too goofy, and Ryan Reynolds' voice doesn't pop up in my head. Deadpool's voice was described as sounding like "gasoline and gravel" and Kassir fits this bill. I do like Nolan's voice though.) Joker - Mark Hamill (Best Joker.) Batman - Kevin Conroy (Best Batman.) Madcap - Nolan North (The voice inside Deadpool's head. North previously voiced the character before.) Spider-Man - Josh Keaton (Love his Spider-Man.) Punisher - Thomas Jane (His voice just feels right.) More to list.
Red Hood: Jensen Ackles (who voiced him in the animated adaptation too the story) Joker: Mark Hamill, since the 90’s Batman: Kevin Conroy Darkseid: sometimes Michael Ironside
Heh, I wonder want the majority are gonna say about Batman and Joker lol. Jack Nicholson for Joker in my case. The mob meeting scene has forever cemented everything that is the Joker to me. Never wanted him to real life play Hal Jordan, but Nathan Fillion for Hal Jordan. Every cartoon in the 90s for X-Men, Spiderman, Batman, and Justice League.
For me, it's a mix of mostly the DCAU with other productions for DC, and a mix of some 90s cartoons and the MCU for Marvel. Standouts and exceptions would probably be: *Sometimes I imagine Aaron Eckhart as both Harvey Dent and Two-Face over Richard Moll. *I go with the extra-over the top Eastern European accent for Doctor Doom from his appearance from the Secret Wars episodes of the 90s Spider-Man animated series *Reed Richard's voice from the original 1960s animated series is my standby, even if the 90s toon one had better range. *Despite trying to keep Superman as his DCAU voice(s), my mind will try to have him read as his voice from the Superfriends cartoons. I guess it's that's iconic to me. *I tend to imagine a fairly normal, mature woman's voice for Giganta over the cartoonisly guttural voice she'll have in some toons like Superfiends and DC Superhero Girls, or the opposite high pitch voice she'll have in DCAU. *I usually hear Tom Kenny's version of Plastic Man, but Dana Snyder's take from Justice League: Action's been warming up to me. *Scarecrow's voice will alternate between Henry Polic II, Jeffery Combs, and Cillian Murphy depending on how he's written in a given story. *I can also be prone to stunt-casting for characters that haven't been in other media yet. For instance, I'll read Grant Morrison's 7 Solders Bulleteer as Christina Hendricks.
Despite being such a big fan of both Marvel and DC, I haven't read many of their comics at all. I do occasionally look up information about them online, but the only ones I recall actually reading are a few old Spider-Man stories, the Spider-Gwen series, and Justice League of America: The Tornado's Path. Soon enough, I'll be adding Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan) to the list, and I'll be sure to update this post when I do. Here are the voices I use: SPIDER-MAN Spider-Man - Christopher Daniel Barnes May Parker - Rosemary Harris Gwen Stacy - Kari Wahlgren Mary Jane Watson - Jennifer Hale Flash Thompson - Matt Lanter J. Jonah Jameson - JK Simmons Green Goblin - Steve Blum Electro - Crispin Freeman Vulture - Robert Englund (Spectacular Spider-Man Vulture voice) Sandman - Travis Willingham SPIDER-GWEN Spider-Gwen - Dove Cameron George Stacy - Clancy Brown Peter Parker - Jason Spisak Ben Parker - Paul Eiding May Parker - Deborah Strang Harry Osborn - Matt Lanter Mary Jane Watson - Tara Strong Glory Grant - Skai Jackson Betty Brant - Lauren Tom Jessica Drew - Jennifer Hale Jesse Drew - Matthew Mercer Cindy Moon - Grey Delisle Miles Morales - Donald Glover Spider-Ham - John Mulaney Captain America - Kimberly Brooks Falcon - Shameik Moore Wolverine - Steve Blum Shadowcat - Uhhh... having a hard time choosing one that fits this version of her. J. Jonah Jameson - JK Simmons Reed Richards - Nadji Jeter Uatu the Watcher - James Arnold Taylor Frank Castle - Adam Baldwin Bodega Bandit - James Arnold Taylor Matt Murdock - Adrian Pasdar Rhino - Fred Tatasciore Vulture - Robert Englund (Injustice 2 Scarecrow voice) Mysterio - Crispin Freeman Kraven the Hunter - Eric Vesbit JLA: TTP It's been so long since I've read this one that I've forgotten quite a bit about it, so unfortunately, this list will remain incomplete unless I decide to look for the story online and read it again. Batman - Kevin Conroy Superman - George Newbern Wonder Woman - Susan Eisenberg Red Tornado - Corey Burton Vixen - Gina Torres Black Canary - Vanessa Marshall Solomon Grundy - Rick D Wasserman Ms. Marvel Ms. Marvel - Kathreen Khavari Captain Marvel - Kim Raver Everyone else - TBA
My headvoice for Wonder Woman has more of a slight accent mainly due to the influence of the movie and the current DC Super Hero Girls' take. It might not be directly Gal Gadot, but near enough to probably say it is if I had to name a actor.
As for other odd spots: The Anti-Monitor - Ever since first reading Crisis OIE as a teen, the only voice I've had is John Colicos' performance as Apocalypse from the '92 X-Men animated series, right down to the tone of his "NOOO!!!" as Barry destroys one of his machines. So far, the version from the Green Lantern animated series hasn't come close to topping that, and I doubt however the upcoming CW version will sound will either. The Monitor - Him on the otherhand, I've had less expectations of, so I readily accepted LaMonica Garrett's voice for him. It's distinct enough to be fun anyway. I think in general, I've accepted a number of the CW actor's voices here and there. Ollie, Supergirl, Barry (helps that the DCAU version is technically Wally, so both co-exist), CW Wally for New52 Wally. I still hear Carl Lumbly for J'onn, but easily switch with David Harewood when I want, especially when he's in John form. Shazam and the Shazam Family - Absolutely the movie versions. Same for New 52 Sivana, though for any version of Dr. Sivana pre-New 52, it's Jim Piddock's voice for him from "Batman; Brave and The Bold", down to how he literally croaks on the name "BODOG" when introducing himself. It's my favorite part.
Superman - George Newbern (He has the more authoritative voice I associate with the Superman persona) Wonder Woman - Mix of Lynda Carter and Gal Gadot. Eisenberg also but she's a bit weighed down by my not caring for the media she's appeared in WW as. Batman - Kevin Conroy with Bruce Greenwood occasionally. Dick Grayson - Jesse McCartney Barbara Gordon - Christy Romano Hal Jordan - Josh Keaton John Stewart - Phil Lamar Guy Gardner - Diedrich Bader Kyler Rayner -Will Friedle Flash (Barry) - Neil Patrick Harris Aquaman - Phil Lamar (though ideally it would be Joe DiMaggio but Aquaman isn't written like his version in the comics) Martian Manhunter - Carl Lumbly and Dorian Harewood Specrtre - Mark Hamil for the Spectre and Gary Cole for Jim Corrigan.
I have to agree with Smkspy, any cartoon voice from 1990s is my default voice for the character. Such a great era of shows and voice work. I also hear the voices from Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heros as well. Really wish they didn’t take that show off the air only to replace it with a bland MCU version of the Avengers.
