I'm kind of anticipating that this will be something totally out of left field, like HO scale trains with the Trainbot decos, a statue or action master-style release, or Trainbot decos for actual trains in Japan.

I\'m still of the cranky old camp who would rather have some G1 figures never re-issued, this being one of them. I like the idea of some epic grail figures that remain elusive, and the Japanese releases fit the bill perfectly. Give us a modern Raiden figure, combiner wars style!

The initial Twitter announcement from Takara does state they’re doing a new ‘Project Raiden’ that’s made up of 6 trains, & has been mentioned by @T-Hybrid earlier this is also how the Seacons were announced (as Project King Poseidon) so I have to believe they’re new toys.

Personally I prefer the more ‘Scramble City/Combiner Wars’ size for them, as I find Titans should be more Citybot sized, but I’d take a new set either way. Does anyone own or have transformed any of Takara’s Shinkalion Train Bot toys? I’m wondering if any of them could be remolded into the Trainbots, I’d assume they’d have similar transformations at least. Also, I found a review of some of them (on Benscollectibles I believe) & the ones on there are almost MP10 size!

It also wouldn’t surprise me if we get a G1 reissue of Raiden as well, but has anyone here actually played with them? I own them (picked them up individually MISB a few years ago & opened them myself) & I can see why Hasbro didn’t release them back in G1... There’s less articulation than expected even for the 80s and they are tiny! I’m guessing it’s to fit on a certain gauge model railway track, but that’s not my sort of thing.

In fact, I’m actually going to sell all of mine (best get a move on!), and I’ve kept all my G1 transformers. Heck, I still love a lot of them like Deszaras, Star Saber, Overlord & the like, but these just didn’t hold my attention. I’m sure another type of G1 fan will appreciate them, but be wary.

There is still the OG price mark up compared to second hand reissues, so if you want to have SUPER bragging rights, there's that option, but I am curious as to why you'd prefer super high prices and low availability. Just doesn't seem worth the effort for Raiden of all characters, especially with how many parts go into him compared to other combiners (I think even Devy has fewer pieces.) To me, that feels more like a chore than a fun hunt, would love to hear more of your thoughts though.

I honestly loved hunting down my Raiden years ago part by part (and then box by box) - as most collectibles can be found easily enough with a simple search these days, so having one that really took time and research felt rewarding (though I did sell it off - the hunt was always a major part of the Transformers experience for me). Going months to finally track down a non-repo gun, or insert, is my happy place :D

I feel having some figures untouched by reissues does help with keeping the collectible nature of the hobby healthy - as those wanting to get into collecting G1 stuff (Or expanding their collection) might be worried about massive price drops often would like to know some figures are going to remain epic grails in the future. and honestly...Raiden is a pretty bad toy to begin with, and I honestly see more people being slightly disappointed with it out of the box (If it is their first experience with the toy) and can see it being a shelf warmer (that is if it isn't just a limited edition convention exclusive - in which case, maybe reissue it) - so why not just leave the original as is, as some sort of mystical item to be awed at, and just give a modern take on it (which has the side benefit of rekindling interest in the character and making the older figures see more demand)

Well, that's kinda hard to argue, fair enough. Thanks for the input. Personally hoping this is a Generations one myself (not a big G1 guy, if my pic wasn't making that obvious), I was just surprised there was an active desire to not reissue it

I'm also hoping more for a Generations update over a straight up Encore release (although I would not say no to an Encore release). Point is, we need some more Transformers train representation besides Astrotrain. A big bonus would also be new characters for the shelf that have not already had several updates already either.

I know it's not Raiden, but I'd also love an Encore (or updated) Car Robots Rail Racer as well.

    They only mentioned "Project Raiden."

Everything else has been speculation. So don't mix that up with anything official.

The CW style group and the Titan combiner group aren't mutually exclusive.

Yeah I wouldn’t buy a reissue. I have a Chinese KO and even when you factor the KOness of it, they’re not really great toys to play with. I’d much rather have a non-titan version that’s compatible with the other CW figures even though the original wasn’t. Devastator is just too damn big IMO.

see... that’s what I’m expecting. Just a train set that doesn’t transform. I hope to be proven wrong.

This. Realistic trains (and realistic Space Shuttles) are some of the least utilized alt-modes that need to be explored!

I definitely remember reading this, but I can't find a source. Can anyone else corroborate?

Oh man , I was half asleep when I saw this , now my bloods pumping .... I personally want a G1 encore , as well as a Generations release.. I\'m in the camp of wanting a modern CW size gestalt , but with six bots ( not five ) , please no Titan size TT ?, Lol. I\'m one of those that appreciates when two gestalts can be of similar hight , and go head to head / Toe to toe ... I still have to find a Turtler/Gulf to complete King Poseidon gestalt , now I have to worry about another long desired combiner getting bought and shipped into my life ... I had no idea agony could be so pleasurable .

Nope. Each is a different type of Japanese train model and character. Youre a young poster., only a baby at 22..Of course youre not familliar with this Raiden Tranbot combiner.

You'll learn pretty quick that there's a sect of the fandom that thinks literally every character deserves a unique mold. It'd be easy to make Raiden with built in remolding for the limbs, the torso is the big question here. However, the Predacons were all unique molds, weren't they? We do have a precedent, so I'll assume that they'll go into it with unique molds at Titan class.

The Predacons were not all unique molds. The legs (Tantrum and Headstrong) share a mold. The two arms (Divebomb and Rampage) share some parts, but otherwise are different molds.

What would be cool is if they made this guy a legends class combiner, alla the 3rd party Hulkie that just came out a few years ago. Would be great since they introduced Battletrap as a legends class combiner as well, but they didn’t do Skytread the same way. So I would assume a Titan Class would be the route they would go for a modern Generations take on the character.

They could pretty easily reshell the two arm bots and the two leg bots into each other. Both leg bots and both arm bots have the same build to each other, so its really only the torso bots that need purely new stuff
