I must confess that with the reveal of Earthrise I was secretly wishing that the packaging would go retro with some updated robot art.

anyone a fan of the old school packaging?

Yes. I think Transformers would sell like gang-busters if they went "Star Wars Anniversary" nostalgia packaging on it. But it would cause the reissues to stand out less.

YEAH,......I miss those packaging but with the little bit of figures in those boxes i have in those great 80's package i want more. So it's like a drug to have minty fresh crisp box. If i had a chance to buy more great 80's reissue figures with that pack you couldn't stop me from wanting to do a shopping spree. I never really had many transformers anyway as a kid but those package then i opened as a kid my mom just picked up and trash can they went as soon as i opened them. I really really want a Scorponoks reissue so bad before we get the Titan class figure but i doubt that it happens. I mean that reissued figure in the orginal box oh man i could see it now. We got a trypticon G1 reissue before titan class so why not a reissue scorponoks to boot before titan class. If we could get that i believe so many people like myself would be happy.

Yes. In general, I find most of the toys from the 80’s to have far more visually impressive packaging than modern packaging. More vibrant colors. Less wording. ( I find multi-lingual packaging too busy.)

Definitely a fan of the old-school packaging, but even more of a fan of the original tech specs. Only a few sentences really fueled my imagination as a child.

I think the Siege and Earth-Rise packaging are a big step in the right direction. PW3 packaging was dull as hell. We definitely need the tech specs of at LEAST the paragraph bios to come back.
I mean, PotP Slash is one of my favorite TF toys ever, but the only things we know about her are "can track" and "is dino".

I've no connection to the G1 packaging in particular, being 25. They are pretty neat though, I cut my Bumblebee and Tailgate reissues out so I could keep the card backs.

    YES. Very much.

I wish so much that MP would use retro packaging, or at the very least feature that gorgeous art that's relegated to tiny cards. They commission some wonderful art, then don't really use it?!

Yes and no. I miss the cards with the bio and tech specs - the ones of the back that you cut out. Those were fun. I wish the WfC line gave at least some info about the characters. Who knows, it might even help sell some of the less familiar ones. I'm pretty sure the boxes of my G1 figures were all discarded, probably most not long after opening, but I loved those cards and saved them. Hopefully they are still in storage somewhere.

The rest of the packaging, not so much. It has a certain retro charm, but honestly it looks kind of lame when compared to the Siege boxes. Sort of like the figures themselves. The G1 toys were good for their time, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a certain nostalgia for them, but what we have now is a lot better. Except for the lack of those cards. :)

Seriously though, since Hasbro is milking G1 nostalgia so much now, why not bring those back? Maybe as inserts that they pop in the boxes along with the instruction books, so that people who want to keep the boxes could do that and still collect the cards and keep or display them together.

I would say just leave the retro packaging to the g1 reissues, since that's one of the major draws of them. But I do agree that the tech specs are always welcome. Also really cool character art on the front.

Yeah those tech-specs really defined so many classic characters who are enduring to this day. These days there is maybe one line at best.

Without the original tech specs Skywarp would have just been another jet, instead of a teleporter etc.

I do love the retro boxes though. I really liked how they gave Ectotron G1 packaging :)

    No....
... Because if all transformers came in g1 style boxes I would need a warehouse to keep them all in.

I’d love for 1980s style packaging for more toys, especially with new 80s style packaging artwork.

As the years go on, I find myself less shocked at management's tonedeafness.

Not really, the difference with the more modern figures isn't that much.

They could do similar, but if anything I'd enjoy seeing them in alt mode with smaller boxes.

They keep talking about less waste.. that would be a way

I don't miss the G1 packaging that much, as it comes back from time to time.
