Well, this is pretty nice for $499 at Sam's. Not a fan of the cab art (that's one of the big appeals to me for the Arcade1up cabs) but, since I'm running out of room for more, I'm seriously considering it. Yeah, AtGames has a rough record (and are being sued right now, LOL!). But it looks like it wouldn't be too difficult to mod if AtGames somehow manages to go belly up in the meantime.

I bet you could get some big vinyl stickers to redo the panels with better art.

Heads up for the Contra folks, SA-1 patch just dropped for Contra 3 if anyone wants to play it without slowdown.

Interested, had a prized boxed contra 3 from japan for a few years = despite cleaning up the gunk on the board it dies every time you progress the overhead 2d stage. Anybody in the uk passing my pub gets 10 pints (my ale only) for a cart version of this.

Analogue is at it again. This time it's a handheld portable system!

This new gaming device is like a Game Boy for design snobs

The screen on this thing sounds insane. Out of the box, it does Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance. On its own, that doesn't do too much to put it above an IPS screen-modded GBA other than not needing to be modified. But via adapters it will also do Game Gear, Lynx, and Neo Geo Pocket Color. Via a USB-C dock, it will do HDMI output and accept Bluetooth or USB gamepads. They are making the FPGA hardware accessible to users this time, so third parties can make their own cores to extend compatibility to other systems. As usual, the stock system only works with physical cartridges, but aftermarket firmware will most likely enable loading ROMs from the micro SD slot.

    Shiny PR preview here:
    Analogue.

I just saw this earlier. Christ, this looks awesome. I usually use my model 101 GBA SP as my default player but if the price is right, this might be the first time I get an Analogue machine.

    Good gawd that looks awesome.

Will probably have to pass since it's apparently limited run and the shipping/import costs will push it past what I can justify for the amount i'll use it, but holy shit that would be exactly what i'd want if I played allot of old handheld games.

They never said it was a limited run item. They said there would be limited quantities available when they open up orders (seems they're not taking pre-orders this time). If the product was strictly limited, Analogue would turn it into a marketing bullet point about "each system includes a numbered certificate of authenticity, blah blah blah" to make it seem even more "premium" and bespoke.

Woah, that's something I'd like. Now if I could get something to play my 3ds games on my 3d tv, that'd be awesome.

Good point. Being able to wait for jailbreaks and to see what homebrew folks do with the FPGAs will make it an easier sell.

I'm pretty sure Citra can do that. Doing it on real/FGPA hardware would be a terrible idea, 3DS is like 400x240 and 3D at that resolution would look horrific on a large screen.

Sadly, as amazing as Analogue's consoles are, 3DTV support is something they lack even for 3D Famicom and Master System games.

Not to mention that starting somewhere around the N64, emulation starts to be a better option than FPGA in every respect. Modern games are written for high-level libraries and APIs virtually 100% of the time, and modern consoles render everything to a display buffer before refreshing the display. With decent hardware, a good emulator won't add any lag that those systems don't already exhibit, and accurately implementing the APIs gradually becomes more important than cycle-accurate emulation of the hardware. That's why we were able to get full-speed N64 games on old Pentium computers. FPGA offers no real benefit to players compared to software emulation in these cases.

PS1 and Saturn are a mixed bag. Given some of the shmups on there (especially on Saturn), I think some games might be able to bypass the buffer and output to the display in real time. But the majority of mainstream AAA games used the buffer. If I'm right, then FPGA clones of Saturn and Playstation might offer an advantage for fast 2D action games, while emulation would be better for everything else.

Byuu wrote about this issue awhile back, I think.

regardless its awesome that analogue is invested into high end retro products. it really is like we are getting to relive these systems again in modern incarnations.

cool too that everyone wants to do those retro mini bundle consoles but for me personally something that is compatible with my old cart collection just has more meaning/value to me.

the mini bundle systems are cool but I think geared toward a slightly more mainstream gamer.

I picked up an NES Max controller for cheap, hoping it would work. It doesn't, so I took it apart, except everything looked intact and clean as far as I could tell. Does anyone know what could be wrong with it? Thanks!

btw. I've put up most of my games on eBay now. I've sold my Mega Drive and Mega CD yesterday. I kept Mega Games 1+2 and Mortal Kombat 2 (and of course my Mega CD games).

Auctioning Mega Drive games (shipping from Germany to world wide)

I looked up today what many of those games were sold for in recent months, did the numbers and thought to myself, the games should not just lie around untouched in my cabinet behind doors. Although I admit for some of those games I always felt a warm feeling to hold them in hand and realizing in what good condition most of those games are and even with instructions for many of the games.

But let's be honest. There's no need to own these just for the faint hope I might be playing them someday. For that I can just use the flash cart...

When I couldn't put Chaos Engine on eBay Germany, because of some weird reason it is indexed by the BPjM since 1995, I thought for a second if I should keep it as well. But nah... I only kept Mortal Kombat II because I have a Mortal Kombat for every console I own. So I need this :lol  And Mega Games 1+2 don't bring so much money and for that money I'd rather keep them.

What's actually wrong? The pad, buttons, etc, or is the whole thing dead? If it's the whole thing, it might be a bad connection from the NES to the controller, i.e. bad cord.

Yeah, none of the controls were working, so it might be the cable. The cable looked pretty good though from the outside, so it has to be internal. I have a couple of clone NES controllers with turbo buttons. Maybe I could do a cable swap?
